Cyberpunk style environment. An elite team of cyber-enhanced ninja work for one of the big corporations, pulling off data-raids, industrial espionage and the occasional honest-to-God assassination. Sex, of course, but not just sex. Post if you're interested; if enough people are I'll work out some more setting info

Does it have to be cyber ninjas? Or can we choose too, something a bit more cyberpunk than cyberninja?

Sure... although cyberninjas are authentic cyberpunk. They're there in 'Neuromancer', the CP Bible. Actually, now that I think of it, maybe the team should be more varied than just ninjas, so anything cyberpunkish really

Okay, well, I've been playing around with ideas for a while, and I've actually reached a kind of different setting from the one we started out with. In fact, ninjas aren't in it at all. It's cyberpunk/conspiracy theory. Bear with me.


It's the year 2070. The bright promise of the new millenium, genetically modified food being made readily available for all, new technology making everything cleaner and better.... none of this stuff happened. Technology is somewhat more advanced than it was back at the start of the century, but everything seems to be grungier, and the number of homeless people, urban decay, gangs and crime just keeps growing. Most people are kept in an apathetic slump; working, consuming, and watching tv while huge corporations fight over the ratings, control what the public sees, and make sure they keep a firm grip on their puppet governments.

The differences between First World and Third World countries sharpen even as the technological fortresses of the USA, Japan and Europe begin a downwards spiral. Pointless, bloody wars erupt constantly in the 'developing countries', and the corporations are more than happy to supply them with just enough arms to keep them occupied.

A few groups and individuals are beginning to question just *why* the world sucks so much. Why, with all the high technology available, none of it seems to improve the world. Where the new gadgets and schematics the leading corporations come out with every year actually come from. Aliens? Satan? Freemasons? Or something far, far worse?

The Inquisition is the most powerful group among the searchers for the truth. It was secretly reinstated by the Jesuits in 2049 after the rise of worldwide 'supernatural' phenomena. Its agents range from genuine, fanatic believers to cynical mercs in simply for the pay. Although its professed agenda; discovery and combat of evil, sounds laudable enough, many are suspicious of the Inquisition, and even its own are becoming alarmed by the sinister rumours of torture-chambers deep in the Roman catacombs, of supernatural infiltration and possession among the highest ranks, and vicious political intrigue played out in the Vatican court.


Okay, that's the basics. You should play one of the anti-conspiracy people, but that's still a pretty broad range. You could be an Inquisitor, a government employee determined at getting at the truth like Mulder (bear in mind that the governments of this world are corrupt, weak, and totally in the palm of the corporations), a disgusted ex MiB troubleshooter for the corps, a member of a group of your own creation, or simply a typical couch-potato type who has suddenly taken a good look at the world around them and decided to go after those responsible with a baseball bat.

Yep, I can definitly use one of my old characters in this thread. I don't know if you guys heard of him or not though. Hes a matrixy, dirty harry-ish, do you feel punk, bullet dodgeing, acrobatic, gun loaded, not too bright, martial arts, sun of a gun... literally. However, there is something one the characters must do in order for him to be in the game though. And this can be any of the characters. Forte is frozen in some sort of chamber, since hes from the past. So SOMEBODY, if they want to, has to discover me then thaw me out.

Asher Radost had always been perfectly happy living amid the squalor of the slums. It made him a good living. If there was one thing that the great unwashed masses craved in this age, it was grander and grander forms of entertainment. Something to draw them in and take them away from there dreary lives. The media, of course, was already awash with countless mindnumbing channels of brainless shows, and the great many where happy with those. Select groups, however, longed for something more. A digital, interactive, immersive, fantasy all of there own design...running the gamut from harmless and lighthearted to the dark and illegal. It was in the crafting of these bootleg fantasies that he'd found his place

He'd always had a way with computers, right from when he was a toddler if his parents were to be believed. Manipulation files came a second nature to him, building dataconstruts more an art than a science to him. He'd begun the whole thing small, a 'safer' way to make a dubious buck than hacking into company files. He'd hack already existing programs and alter them to his clients taste. As the money came in, he was able to afford better and better gear(Including the inplanting his first neural interface)and was able to create from scratch, as well as charging more for the end product as word of his reliable services grew

It was the spreading of this word that brought him to the attention of the Inquisition. They had many a use for someone with a empathy for data such as he, even if his current activities wernt to be commended. He was approached by an agent with an offer...That he work the odd job for the Inqusition in return for hardware upgrades. The type of hardware upgrades he would ~never~ get on the street. It was an offer he couldnt refuse, and the start of an uneasy relationship between the two

Asher is in it for himself. For the thrill that being part of some 'special assignment' gives him and for the hardware to be earned so that he can continue to further his 'art'
