Next Stop: Tyson vs. Lewis?

Are you ready to rumble Laurel?

I set the VCR to tape the fight before I went out last nite and just got around to watching it. What a joke! I heard Roger (the fight was in Scotland, Rog's stomping grounds) was a minute late and missed the whole damn thing. Dang, Laurel, we could put on a better show than that. Where's our promoter?

Tyson did look mean and lean, though, but who could tell how good he can still fight? Tyson vs. Lewis and Roy Jones
somewhere in the equation look like the only big money fights. They all should stay away from David Tua.

I also taped the ESPN fights Friday nite and just watched that. Well, fast forwarded through most of it. Laurel, did you see Tarver vs. Harding for the right to fight Roy Jones? Harding won a decision but neither of these two dudes could win a round against Jones. It'll be almost like premediated murder. Maybe Jones will fight that German guy, I can't say his name, but there is nobody else out there. He has to go to heavyweight.

tyson finished

I didn;'t watch; I aubscribe to the view he should not be allowed in the UK, since no other convicted rapist would be.

But read all the reports ... he may indeed have looked lean and mean but he is also out to lunch,

It is clear he bopped Frank Warren during the week - Warren finally emerged after 4 days in hiding (odd place for a promoter in the week of a fight!) sporting a bruised jaw and damaged eye after the jewellery row - seems on his last visit Tyson racked up a half million pound bill at a jeweller's (idiots!) and then claimed it was a present from Warren! Warren didnt see it that way since that amounted to a good slice of his profits!

And at the fight itself - just couldn't stop hitting after the bell and hit the ref too; all UK commentators agreed he should have been disqualified!

The guy needs locking up. Lewis would be mad to go into the ring with him even if the competing interests of promotors and TV companies could make it happen which looks increasingly unlikely.

I have hated Mike Tyson from day one! I used to think that he was just another victim of society and a bad upbringing but this sick fuck should have been locked away when he was 18. I understand that he had a shitty childhood and has to take medication like so many of us but if I did the shit he has I would have been locked away long ago. He has had plenty of time, money and opportunity to better himself yet he still acts like an animal. So how do we reward him? 8 million bucks, special treatment, and no charges pressed!!! Sorry....this is a sore spot with me!!

I agree

Tyson is nothing more than a shameless prick who should go back where he came from. (someone's ass most likely)

I hope the limey bastard dies.

??? Mike Tyson is a resident of Las Vegas, NV, USA. As far as I know, he was born in this country as well.

Just which "limey bastard" are you referring to?

(BTW, I do not mean to imply that I would be terribly disappointed if the British authorities were to lock him up for a while before they let him come home.)

I agree with Golden. The bastard should not have been let in the country! I'm not a boxing fan anyway, but usually I just ignore it. Letting a convicted rapist into the country really made me angry (understatement). (It also made me wonder what use the Scottish Parliment is, if they couldn't keep him out, but that's a whole different argument! :) )

Well, here's what Tyson has to say, from yesterday's USA TODAY ...

"No one can stop me. Lennox is a conqueror? No I am Alexander. I'm the best ever. There's never been anybody as ruthless. I'm Sonny Liston. I'm Jack Dempsey. I'm from their cloth. There's no one who can match me. My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable, and I'm just ferocious. I want your heart. I want to eat his children."

I guess Mike forgot all about Buster and Evander. He couldn't intimidate Buster because Buster is too stupid and he couldn't intimidate Evander because Evander is Evander.

But then Lennox once got clocked by a nut case named Oliver McCall. And who really has Lennox beaten? Evander, OK, but not by much, and Evander was once a lightheavyweight, remember?

Both Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis have been decisively beaten. Roy Jones has lost very few founds, let alone fights. I dunno, I dunno, I still say Roy might have a chance against either one of these two, who are also getting older by the minute I might add.

Golden & Beauty Babe,

LOL. Don't blame you for not wanting him there. Some of us Yanks were just hoping you guys would keep him over there. Thats all. For a long time. Sure wouldn't be a loss to us over here.

Allow me to add in a fight between Tyson and Deborah, my money's on the blonde. :D

I didn't watch the fight, but Savarese in the past has proven to be a pretty good fighter. How long did it take Tyson to beat Savarese??? I think I heard like less than a minute, but I can't be quite sure??? Deborah refers to it being less than a minute, but Golden says Tyson was hitting after the bell??? I'm thinking after the bell of each round, so if anyone could please answer.

Ryan, Laurel gives a link on her first post which gives a good account of the fight. There was no bell, obviously, because the fight was stopped 38 seconds into the first round. The controversy is over the fact that Tyson kept right on punching Savarese after the referee stepped between the two contestants and stopped the fight.

Riding home from work I was listening to a sports report which said there will be a hearing on this controversy and Tyson may be suspended from fighting in yet one more place.

I also heard on the same report that Lennox Lewis wants to fight Tyson after his next mandatory title defense. They'll probably have to fight on Mars.

Hey Endlessly, I'll take on Tyson. Rumble in the jungle, my backyard, which is 6 acres of woods. No holds barred. Bring your own weapons. Not to brag, but I might add that I am rather good at paint ball war. They call me "the assassin." Don't like to play in the winter though. Those damn paint balls, especially the yellow ones, don't burst and sting and bruise like crazy, even through a coat.

Best quote re: Tyson

I just heard a sound bite on ESPN Radio that pretty much sums up Mike Tyson.

"He doesn't fight by the Marquis of Qeensbury rules, he fights by the Marquis de Sade rules"

TYSON IN THE DOCK

British Boxing Board of Control has summoned Tyson to appear by 31 August to give his view of the fracas at the end of the fight. Pretty much no chance he’ll agree to appear; no way the board can sanction him fighting in UK if he doesn’t; and Simon Block the Board Secretary sits on the European board as well I think, so he has a powerful voice there.

As well as rules, to make the sport workable at all, there are ethics and morals in boxing ; you break these, you gotta go.
