Evidently, Newsweek just put out an issue regarding the Bible and gay marriage--on the side of gay marriage. Predictably, they got a slew of angry e-mail from the Religious Right. There is now a counter movement to send even more e-mail to Newsweek in favor of the article:

How many times have you had to hear opponents of marriage equality cite scripture after scripture from the Bible? How many times have you wanted to know exactly the right response to their literary acrobatics?

Newsweek's recent cover story, "The Religious Case for Gay Marriage" provides just that -- debunking all the popular myths. Immediately after the story was printed, they've received a barrage of opposition letters from the religious right. Make sure they know there are also millions of us who support equality! You can send them a note in support of the story here.
Here's hoping they get more favorable than unfavorable e-mails.

Newsweek seems pretty solidly pro-human rights;

And the tone describing unfavorable responses is pretty contemptuous.

on his personal blog, Albert Mohler, the ninth president of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, argues in a lengthy response for the reproductive reasoning behind marriage: "At the center of this extended family stands the institution of marriage as the most basic human model of covenantal love and commitment, " he writes. "And this notion of marriage, deeply rooted in its procreative purpose, is unambiguously heterosexual."

This gentleman is "unambiguously" full of shit! Where does he think my two lovely daughters came from, the fucking stork? :rolleyes:

(Hey, Amy! Get your "unambiguously lesbian" ass in here! We just been called "heterosexuals" :eek: )

The Bible doesn't talk that much about marriage, or even about sex in general. Most of the "conservative" positions on sexuality are based on strained interpretations of a very few passages.

The one exception, mentioned in the article, is Paul's letter to the Romans where he blasts "unnatural" sexual activity.
