An exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum of Art has Mayor Rudy G. in an uproar again. Seems an artist (Renee Cox) has a painting on display showing the Last Supper with a naked woman portraying Jesus Christ. He feels it is a slap in the face of Catholics (who are protesting) and that an institution which is partially funded by the public must respond to the public outcry. He wants to initiate a 'look see' into the regulations governing such exhibits. Now, Ms. cox is crying foul saying it is an expression of her freedom of speech.

What's your opinion?

Her freedom of expression??

Bullshit!

The only reason marginally talented people use religious imagery like that for their "art" is because they don't have enough talent to make a stir on their own. They have to kick someone in the ass to get any attention.
But that's just my opinion.

Somebody should tell the very moral Mayor that there are 10 Commandments, not 9.

I would find such a painting very offensive and would not want to see it. And if my tax dollars were funding such art I would be very angry. Having said that, I do feel that Cox has a right to paint what she wants (she can take that up personally with Christ on Judgement Day.)

Picasso said that "Taste is the enemy of creativity", and I agree with that. There should be no censorship of art, but neither should offensive art be federally funded. Just my opinion. I think it's Cox's way of getting attention and if she were ignored, perhaps she would move on to other subjects.
