Dammit, I'm trying to kill this thread and somehow it got duped. The original content of this post was the article "It's the Demography, Stupid - The real reason the West is in danger of extinction" (http://www.opinionjournal.com/extra/?id=110007760 I took it down because it's too depressing. Seeing Selena's av convinced me to instead just pop a cork, enjoy the scenery, and tune out the world for the next 60 years or so. Sorry gang.

He used to write for a paper, here. A tabloid actually. Their basic philosophical position is that things haven't been the same since they let the children out of the mines.

One columnist once suggested we should farm out our defence to Third World countries. "Really?" says I. "Just like Rome did before the Goths overran it?"

A couple of weeks ago, another columnist wrote we should reintroduce public floggings. I made a mental note to stash two kilos of heroin in his house and alert the police should he get his wish. I hope he enjoys it.

Mark Steyn fit right in with these jackasses.

Personally, I think little kids shouldn't be allowed to sing at all, because they're all lousy at it.

But if they have to sing at school festivities, I'd prefer them to sing something in a language I can't understand, rather than to hear them mangle poor Rudolf, accompanied by sniffing mothers and coughing fathers who think that this sugary-sweet display of a complete lack of talent is the top of civilized behaviour.

Well, I personally wish you had not deleted the article. Although it can be seen as depressing, I thought it was important to point out the birth rates of western women and there was a good deal of tongue and cheek humor sprinkled in.

I am not as pessimistic about the future as one might think, taking into consideration the points made in the piece.

Just as there was a Renaissance, a re birth of Greek knowledge, I think there will be a rediscovery of basic western values in the near future.

I also think it will be a violent period of time, not genocidal, but ethnic cleansing by deportation and banishment.

I think there is a 'core' of common values held by that 'silent majority', that will rise up and renew the vision of mankind.
