I suspect this person had to swear because he/she partakes in activities on Lit that would be deemed unacceptible by his/her soon-to-be spouse. Which brings up several questions - like why not participate in the parts of lit that aren't breaking your marital covenent? and what have you been doing that your betrothed would not accept once you're married but it okay before the nuptials?
