Newer Story Publishing Before Older Pending Story

So, I've had a story pending for the past 8 days. I submitted a brand new one that will be part of a new series, and that one is publishing tomorrow. I don't understand why I still have an older one still pending while a brand new one is going through.

Because they aren't always reviewed and published in order by the date/time of submission. Laurel seems to work on certain categories in batches, for one thing.

That makes sense. Although, both are in the same category.
