These were done very recently. I posted them a few days ago in GD, but most of you probably missed them...

A portrait of my best friend:

Commisioned by my beautiful friend up there^. He wanted me to interpret our unique friendship in a drawing (I'm the feisty cat and he's the elegant Arab):

Wow, beautiful drawings. I love the Valkyrie one. Fantasy art always has a special place in my heart. Seeing art like this makes me wish that I had the talent to make a scene in my mind come alive on paper. An amazing gift. Keep 'em comin ^_^

That has always been my greatest joy! To be able to make something take shape - from my brain to the page. :)

Thankyou, Wg! :rose:

Do you have other creative abilities? Are you a writer, photographer, other? Can you tell an imaginitive story? It sounds as if you create strong pictures in your head!

Well, I attempt to write and fail miserably, lol. Other than that, the only creative stuff I do revolves around theatre. My two main areas of interest there are acting and set design.

There ya go! I couldn't do that to save my life! Have you done set design? Have you had parts in plays?

What plays did you like the best?

Yeah I lived in the theatre during college ^_^ Got to act, direct, and everything inbetween. As for a favorite, I was the assistant director on a show called Sorority Girls Slumber Party Massacre the Musical. Just to give ya a clue as to what it was like, there's a song entitled "There's a Severed Head in the Tioliet Bowl."

although i have the artistic ability of a 5 year old drawing with their feet, my eye for art is pretty good so i'm very critical when it comes to other peoples work (like anyone's gonna listen to me waffle on, lol) but i love your work on the thread so far.
keep up the good work hun :catroar:

you have beautiful stuff! i adore sketchwork, especially portraiture and fantasy which is were my art is inclined.

you have real skill *admiration****

gorgeous gorgeous work kcar! between yoru self portrait, and this latest series you are really showing off your talent beautifully!

The friendship commission has a depth to it and I am betting even more meaning that you and he share that few others can catch.

Brava.

Thanx so much, again, Kat! (Is it ok to call you that?)

Waffle all you like! I love hearing from you. :cathappy:

I think I'm going to combine all of my art in just one thread, so that it will be easier for peeps to find my work. Just skip over the stuff you've have already seen. ;)

Truely you are a talented and creative individual. These are great and can't wait to see more! Do you ever draw for profit?

Thanx so much, rose! That means a lot to me. Drawing is my only strength. Can't do much else. *giggle*

Portraits and fantasy are my faves too! Do you draw then?

Hello! I remember you from the GB!

Thankyou, sugared! :rose:... and yes, I do sell for profit. But I'm not rich, by any means. hehehe... I've sold close to 500 drawings and paintings (some from galleries), over the last 21 yrs.

I sell on the internet now, and take commissions from all over the world.

Hey, SH! Thankyou! I love you for that. :rose:

Yes, we are extremely close, and it's a completely platonic friendship. I'm more or less an older friend, but the lines get blurred...I'm also his adopted mom. (I'm 51, he's 20). We can talk about anything, and he, indeed, reminds me of my own two sons. We became friends, originally, because we had a shared interest in philosophy and science.

I had a similar realtionship with a woman in my 20's though she was probalby closer to 40 at the time ....... I still think of her as a huge influence on my life and treasure the conversations we shared. He is quite lucky to have you, trust me.

The valkyrie herself, though not her horse, seems a little wooden, perhaps, but the portraits are top notch work. I like the easy pencil stroke, the light natural scribbly lines that fine down for detail when needed and go back to casual when not. You can almost participate in the work, looking at it; almost see the image swim up into definition from the page as the pencil weaves its invocation spell. If you had a live horsewoman to look at, I imagine she, too, would have shared in that same texture.

Tell me: There's the ghost (in wash?), in the background of the portrait of your friend. Is it a head? Perhaps a tattoo design the friend wears? Or am I imagining things?

You're right! When I create individuals from my head, it's difficult to draw them with natural grace...I haven't drawn figures in yrs, and have become really rusty! The trees and animals I do are all from my head too...for some reason, they come more naturally. I only look at photos for portraits.

Horses I've been drawing since I was 4 yrs old, so they come very easily to me. Trees too! They were my friends when I was young.

Thankyou! I've seen your drawings (I just visited the drawings from your sig, and I posted there). I'm so honored to recieve those compliments from you, and thankyou for such a detailed critique! :rose:

No, the wash is just very loose with marks for interest. I allow them to happen...I feel that they make the drawing a little more interesting.

I appreciate that! We both feel very lucky to've become friends...the drawing is called "Little Miracle". Our friendship was a complete surprise to both of us.

Was she your mentor, as well as your friend? :)
