If you're just starting out, I'd recommend:

self-adhesive dry vinyl, or "bondage" tape. You can buy it on Amazon, and it doesn't stick to anything but itself. It's comparatively inexpensive and easy to wrap and remove (a pair of inexpensive EMT/bandage scissors is a big help).
