Hi,
I've read quite a few stories here on Lit, and considering giving writing a try. I have never written an erotic story and would love pointers to what I should keep in mind. Do's and Don'ts. Not to mention I need plot ideas!

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the world of erotic writing! It can be quite enjoyable and fulfilling. (and a little frustrating at times, at well!)

As to pointers, I would suggest checking out the "Writer's Resources" available on the Story Index page. There is a quite a bit of reading there, I know. But the advice meted out is great - and by some of the best writers on Lit. Those articles can help with such things as how to write dialogue, how to select names, how to use punctuation - all sorts of good stuff to help you out!

When you have your story written, especially with it being your first submission, I would strongly suggest using the volunteer editors. A word of caution here: some editors don't respond, and still others have so much to do that they might not get to your story until sometimes weeks later. The best way round this is to submit your story to 3 or 4 different editors. Most will try to respond within 3 days, and their feedback is really helpful! They can read for gramatical errors and/or story content - its readability and whether it "flows" well. An invaluable resource, belive me! And once you find one or two editors that you like, stick with them, let them know you appreciate them, and let Laurel know what a great job they've done. (There is a place to do this when you submit your story)

As to plots, well the sky's the limit. But do realize that underage sex (under 18) is not allowed at Lit. Also, beastiality and severe rape stories will be posted at another site and not at Lit. Plots can come from real life experiences, your own imagination, or by checking out the "Story Ideas" forum here at Lit. In the "Story Ideas" readers will post what they would like to see. Sometimes you might read something and say, "Hey, I know about that", or "I've done something similiar to that". It might just inspire your imagination to write something.

But, keep in mind, you may have had some real life experiences that you think are mediocre, even downright boring. But putting it in writing, adding a few flourishes, and WHAM! Suddenly you have a hot story. In other words, others might be fascinated by what you consider to be mundane. Just a thought to consider.

Lastly, use these forums - especially "Author's Hangout" for encouragment and tips as you write your story. There are a lot of great people there who will even take the extra time to read through your story if you are stuck, and give you some ideas on how to continue. (Hey, we all get stuck at some point!)

Most important of all, just have fun. That's really what it is about. But I do have to admit, the first time seeing your story up at Lit is quite a rush....

Good luck!

Damn Sexy Chele, you said everything.
Nothing to add here except keep your eyes and ears open.
Stories are everywhere, just waiting to be told
and the 'Story Feedback and Discussion' forums are pretty good too.:)
