There's another option, of course: you could ask for permission from the copyright owner.

Your own reaction to that idea may help - if you think they'd turn you down flat, rather than just imposing conditions, then the prospects for the story are probably not too good...

With lyrics and poetry, we generally allow no more than 50% - and we ask that you give the author credit for the lyrics within the story. With articles and longer works, we generally ask that you quote no more than 10% - and again, please credit the original author. Hope this helps, and sorry for the delay!! If days were about 4 hours longer, I might someday be able to get caught up with everything.
