Newbie question

I'll save introduction for later...first, can anyone tell me how I can get my avatar to work? When I try to edit I get a box clicked with "don't use one" and I can't get it to uncheck, nor can I get any menu telling me how. Anyone?

Sorry to disappoint you.
You don't have an Avatar until you've reached 100 posts.
Up until then, you simply have titles that change according to the number of posts.

Just keep posting, you'll soon get there.
