Why is it that stories/poems get many views yet few votes? Is it that readers don't care enough to vote? Or do they only vote for the ones they like?

Many of us have asked that same question for a LONG time. Your guess is as good as ours. All we can do is speculate.

It seems like I always get a fairly consistant votes to reads ratio with the stories I've posted. I'm sure everyone has gotten similar results. I think there are a few factors going on here.

1. Not everyone who clicks on a story finishes reading it.

2. Some visitors to the site don't know that they can vote or the importance of votes and comments to authors.

3. Some people lose consciousness after wanking and forget to vote.

4. Readers don't want to get the keyboard all sticky and neglect to vote after mopping up.

:D Welcome to Lit, enjoy your day.

Lol, couldn't of put it better myself :D

I know a person who reads the stories and never votes. He doesnt feel like he has to.

When he got me into Lit, I would read the stories and vote, just because I felt that the writers took the time and effort to bring such erotic stories to life that they deserved to know that I enjoyed their work.

When I began writing I told him that he better vote for my stories (which he says that he has...*shrugs* but who knows?)

I wish it were mandatory that you couldn't get out of the story unless you voted...but that could be a good thing or a bad one, eh?

Welcome to Lit and, if you have written something be sure to put a link in your signature line that way we can read, vote and leave comments....

Thanks for your reply. I didn't think of #3 and #4. LOL.

Or make them vote before they read?

It's only us stat-hungry authors that want votes readers are under no obligation.

You're very welcome.

I like to think #3 and #4 are the primary reason for this sort of voting:

score votes views
Earth Day Field Trip She lets school bad boy put it anywhere.
4.48 362 95969 Anal (English) 03/26/04

There had better be some furious jerking going on.

Either that or one dude clicked on my story about 90,000 times. ;)

I don't even care about winning or being #1--- but it would be nice to know if the story/poem struck a chord!

hrm

Honestly, I only ever make a comment when it is fiercly good, just okay, not bad, doesn't get a vote from me. If your story grabs me by the neck, I'll push the button, if it doesn't ... meh.

Well, I guess that's better than giving the story a 1

My story is sitting at 1926 views and 11 votes. I suspect a lot of the viewers who didn't vote are ones who opened it, then backed out when they saw how long it was.

How are the views counted for stories with multiple lit pages? Does it count the first page only, or is it for each page viewed?
