Ok, somebody post a global map for me and tell me the differences between these two countries.

The customs, the people, the culture, the accents (are they different?).

I feel like such an idiot, but it's all been "down under" for me until lately. Now, I'd really like to know what's going on down there.

For starters New Zealand is the country with an acceptable IQ level :D

Oh God Ruby...where do I start?

*Running off to compose list...* :)

Accents...

Okay - don't `flame' me for this... :) but here are some observations...

Phrase: `Fish and Chips'
Aussie: `Feesh and cheeps'
Kiwi: `Fush and chups'

Word: Milk
Aussie: Melk
Kiwi: Mulk

Word: Thanks
Aussie: Thaanks
Kiwi: Thunks

Also - Aussies (and I say this with love! :) ) Either `swallow' the ends of their sentences...`mate' becomes `may'...or drag the sentence out in a small, but whiney tone...i.e `yeeeeeeah'.

Conversely, New Zealanders tend (and I shudder when I hear this) say `New Zillind' - instead of New Zealand...drives me nuts! :)

I could go on all night... but I think I'll stop there! :)

I think we are like Canada and the USA. We love to hate each other, but would help each other in a battle any day :)

Australia is the bigger country. The largest island in the world.

New Zealand is the smaller islands to the south east.

And i love the New Zilland (LOL) ski fields! - They rock. I'be been to our Victorian and NSW ones, but Queenstown is my favorite so far!!!

I was in Thredbo (NSW) just two days before that landslide that killed all those people a few years ago. (That was not relevant to this thread i suppose but thinking of the snow made me think of it...)

Sorry,GOTTA flame you on this one.
I'm an Aussie,obviously.

I say Fish and chips.
Milk.
Thanks.
I dont ALWAYS swallow the ends of my sentences.
And i never ever whine.

I think maybe one thing us Aussies do is speak to quickly.
I constantly have to slow myself down when i'm on the phone to a slow talkin yank, who shall remain nameless.

Apart from that,the main difference?
Aussies are better looking.

Ha.

New Zealand is actually 3 main Islands Orlanth

North Island, where the majority of the Kiwi LIT members live.

South Island, where I live and it contains the most glorious scenery, (see LOTR) and the best skifields Mt Hutt, Porter Heights and Queenstowns Coronet Peak and Cardrona.

Stewart Island, at the bottom of the country . Wild wind swept wilderness
Theres also Chatham Island out to the east, very wild place, windswept, and isolated, only way there or back is by plane.

Citys:

Auckland, the largest city, most Aucks (or JAFA's) as we Southys call them, think NZ stops just at the Bombay Hills. Home of the America's Cup for the next 500 years. The City of Sails, built on two harbours. Nice place, just wouldn't wanna live there.

Wellington, our capital, windy, Home of Parliment and a big caketin called the Westpac Trust Stadium. They call it the Home Of Culture. Features NZ's biggest Museum Te Papa. And NZ's biggest Beehive (Parliment House)

Christchurch (my home town) a little slice of England, beautiful Garden City, Old Gothic buildings and one very wierd and eccentric Wizard-LOL Largest park in NZ Hagley Park.

Dunedin - Little Edinburgh, founded by Scots and it shows in the architecture. Has one of the most beautiful Railway stations in the world. Great imposing old University buildings too. Love the place.

Hope that kinda filled in some of the gaps Ruby. Sure beats some of the chest beating of the other posters...each country is great. We have a friendly sporting rivally but in a crisis, we'd be right there for them, as I'm sure they would for us.

Written by one proud and patriotic kiwi :)

Draco, it didn't have the 3rd island in that pic.

Anyways, we still got the bigger island. :p

yeah, so you do. That pic doesn't show any of NZ at all..find a better one.

Lets not turn this thread into a slang match..huh?

Draco, I'm just kiddin man.

New Zealand is a beautiful contry. I would love to visit it some day!

That map didn't show New Zealand? So those two island I pointed out aren't New Zealand?

The difference between Aussie and NZ? Well, it's like this. I have friends in Aussie. I also have friends in NZ. I don't have a lover/partner in Aussie tho. :)

Seriously tho,. Aussie's a nice place too. I'd love to see it someday and see the freinds I've made there. Just the same as I'd love to see NZ. Only difference is, I know I'll see NZ. Aussie's just a wish.

:)

Nah, when I checked it, it cut NZ off thru the middle, i figured it was an aussie prank..my mistake.

Both Australia and New Zealand are beautiful countrys. But they both are very, very diffrent.

Nope, it wasn't a prank. I new it wasn'tall of New Zealand. But the map was the only one which had it. (I was in kind of a hurry)

As an interested, neutral, observer let me say you're both great.

However you both have one serious fault, which should be
obvious.

I don't live there,and I should.:(
