New Year, New Spouse

Not exactly a cheerful "Winter Holiday" idea, but seasonal in a creative way...

imagine an alternative society where each year on New Years at midnight, all the adult males draw the name of a female to be their spouse for the next year...

the angst of the 18 year olds first time
the fear of getting the unattractive match
the true lovers about to be torn apart..

and for the sex, all the new couples have to consummate in public...

There might be the option with this idea to change the randomness of drawing pairs from a hat and installing some kind of government which plays an active role in pairing people up dependant on the needs of the society.

Maybe it's a naughty resort that caters to couples and singles, as long as there are an equal number of each at the start of each week. At orientation, they get names drawn to find their "vacation spouse" for the week.

Of course, they all have to be pre-screened for attractiveness.
