We can't all be Washingtons, but we can all be patriots. ~Charles F. Browne
OOC:
In the tradition of Red Dawn and the Patriot
The year is 2013 and the dawn of a new super power has begun in what was once the United States. The Secret Government a group of bureaucrats, profiteers , old Nazis, mercenaries, spies and super patriots have taken control of the country on the grounds of nation security, but their reign of terror is just beginning. The system our founders feared the most is now in place, and they're part of an even larger conspiracy.
National honor is national property of the highest value. ~James Monroe, first inaugural address, 4 March 1817
The new council of elders took control of the White House and has seized control of congress. Within the days and week that followed a shocking chain of events took place. First violent storms and hurricanes took place all over coastal areas causing mass devastation (almost as if the weather was controlled or manipulated).
This prompted the federal government to move in and begin placing thousands of refugees in federal disaster relief camps using unmarked rail cars. During the move many people went missing and others were put in administrative isolation. Weapons and other equipment deemed "dangerous" were confiscated. Life in the camps is livable if not acceptable if not for the fact thousands are being held indefinitely and children are being taken to new special schools daily.
Then thousands of police departments were federalized along with firearms practically being banned as the constitution is suspended during this time of crisis. Despite increased spending on the military national guard units begin shutting down and their equipment is sent off to unknown bases. The United States new National Police force looks more like a new army though black hoods are the new standard.
Along with the changes to the military and the police the United Nations has been asked to step in to help deal with the disasters and possible uprisings. Though they wear the blue beret of the UN many are suspicious of the thousands of Chinese and Eastern European troops who are now patrolling America's country side. Unlike American troops they have no problem enforcing marshal law and killing civilians.
While most citizens are either appalled or fearful some approve of the new more powerful central government and have been joining civilian brigades. Though originally organized under the premise to support relief efforts at home the organization begins taking on a more para-military form. Soon they're armed and patrolling the streets of our cities in armored humvees wearing brown sweat shirts and camouflage fatigues. There are "foreign advisers" within their ranks and they're armed with military style weapons and riot gear. Their primary mission is to confiscate weapons, and to deal with dissidents.
In defence of the freedom that is our birthright. . .we have taken up arms. We shall lay them down when hostilities shall cease on the part of the agressors, and all danger of their being renewed shall be removed, and not before." John Hancock
So what are you going to do about it? Is the second American Revolution at hand or are you going to lay down and take it? Ready to fight, well if you are the front line is in your home town. A task force of UN, federal police, emergency management, and civilian brigade personnel are coming to Farmington, and they will take over unless someone stops them.
"The battle, Sir, is not to the strong alone; it is to the vigilant, the active, the brave. Besides, Sir, we have no election. If we were base enough to desire it, it is now too late to retire from the contest. There is no retreat but in submission and slavery! Our chains are forged! Their clanking may be heard on the plains of Boston! The war is inevitable; and let it come! I repeat, Sir, let it come!"
Patrick Henry
The Setting
(The beginning of a setting....more details to follow and feel free to ask questions.)
Nothing much to do in Farmington a typical small town in upstate New York. The town is populated by roughly 1,000 people, mostly farmers and other patriotic Americans. On the East side of town there is an old Air Force base which is still in use though at least a third of it appears empty. On the western side of town there is an extensive series of under ground caves where used after Vietnam by the military to dumped hundreds of drums of toxic waste and other harmful materials. The caves were sealed with concrete, and it was thought would never seep out(they were wrong).
To the North of town past the Sheriff's is the Highway and after long and lonely drive you will be in Buffalo in a matter of hours. To the South you will mostly find woods and most of the town farms.
In the town center you will find the sheriff's office, fire house, and Hank's Gun shop. If your hungry stop by the Red Cloud Diner where the coffee is great and their are specials almost every night a week. If you want a drink and some good hot wings the Stone Hill pub is in the middle of town too.
My family would want me to stay alive, your family would want you to stay alive. You think you're so smart man, you're just a bunch of scared kids.-Jed, Red Dawn
Character Creation
This violates the Geneva convention! Jed Eckert: I never heard of it!
Before the take over you had a life filled with friends, family, work and play, but now you're becoming a resistance fighter. You can start of as anything though from college student to stripper, farmer to financial adviser. All you need is a reason to be in Farmington. You could be a life time resident or just moved in a few months back. The town isn't complete so there can easily be a small apartment building or house in town, and please feel free to start up a business all I ask is show some variety. We don't need a dozen gun shops in a small town.
