I don't know how old or new this thing is, but my computer's just been infected, and it's a pain in the...

Lovegate.

It attaches itself through e-mails, and gets into your computer that way. Well inside, it multiplies like amoebas, and installs and re-installs malware. You may delete the malware; it will just come back.

I suggest a visit to Symantec, where you may download a removal tool.

I noticed something was wrong when my computer all of a sudden opened the MS-DOS window without being asked... and then opening another 11 MS-DOS windows... and the marker bouncing left and right like an old Atari-version of Pong.

A new harddrive is in the mail. I'm waiting... and waiting...

The LoveGate virus is a couple of years old.

Lovegate generally first appears as an attachment to an e-mail message. [Never open an e-mail attachment unless you personally know the sender. NEVER!] Lovegate uses typical social-engineering tricks like e-mail headers promising free software, filthy pictures, etc. If the PC user opens/runs the attached program, it then integrates itself with the victim's operating system. The result is FUBAR!

I never open attachment unless I know the person who has send it - and usually, I doublecheck with that person that he/she really HAS sent something to me. I don't know how this blasted thing got into my computer, but I'm downloading an extra anti-virus program to fight it.
