Here is the latest virus alert that I saw both on the news and got a warning from my ISP regarding it, also. Here are excerpts from the email...
To our valued customers,
This morning (8/12/2003) we have received a lot of calls regarding the W32.Blaster.Worm that shuts down Windows 2000/XP machines automatically. Unfortunately, it is beyond the scope of our normal technical support to fix it over the phone.
If you feel that you can patch and remove the worm yourself, a free download from http://www.windowsupdate.com is available. You will also need to download the virus removal tool from http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.blaster.worm.html.
To give a little bit more information regarding the worm; detailed information can be downloaded from Microsoft at http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=823980 regarding diagnostics, removal, etc. This worm only infects Windows 2000/XP/NT and NOT Windows 95/98/ME through just being connected to the Internet and not email.
