New to this Board...With a Gripe

Hello everyone...I am new to the Authors Hangout but not to the forums in general...as you see I have an AV duhh lol...I have a few stories posted and they have actually gotten good reviews (thank God) but yeah...So I'm introducing myself but I also want to say I have so noticed that NO ONE scores anymore...My new story has been read by 1800 people and only 3 voted...that just seems kinda rude to me...or am I just the only one who cares??

I'm anal like that in that i think that just ya know if you want to score me below a 3 then give me feedback tell me why...

Oh also I need an editor cause no matter how much I reread my stories I always miss something, and I think a fresh perspective could help in my writing. If you can't tell I write for more than the erotic factor. I take it seriously...Anyways thats it I'm done...

Welcome M_E nice to meet you, nothing wrong with caring about votes, but don't hold your breath waiting for them or trying to make sense of the reader versus vote ratio, or for that matter the reader versus feedback ratio. I look at some of mine with say, 47000 views, maybe 30 votes, and nil feedback.

Eyup Miz. 3 in 1800 isn't actually all that bad. If you consider that something like a third of those views are clickbacks then it's 3 in 1200.

Harold or someone will be able to give you the guesstimates properly.

My most viewed story has about 45000 views and none of the stories have reached 100 votes.

They're obviously all shuddering through violent orgasms to be able to vote.

Don't put to much stock in the votes and feedback. People rarely bother to vote and even fewer bother w/feedback. What I do is save the adress of each person who offered constuctive feedback and provided the addy of course. Then I send a notice when I have a new story. It leads me to consistent feedback. edited to add ps: Now that we've teased Destinie, welcome to the AH, Mizz Erotica. I have two possible explanations for the low vote totals on your new story.

Unlike your other stories, this one is in Erotic Couplings which is huge and something of a catch-all category that tends to generate relatively few votes.

Unlike your other stories, this one is a two-pager. There seems to be a preferance for shorter stories by many readers. Once they discover a story is more than one page long, many of them apparently hit back space instead of starting to read or finishing the story and reaching the place where they can vote and leave comments.

RF me thinks you might be right, my other stories were all one page long and well umm not of the erotic coupling catagory. Maybe I should stick with the genre that I seem to do best in and that non consent.

Destinie thanks for the tip I do have a few addresses in my mailbox i never thought to let some of my repeat readers know when I've posted a new story. I'll stalk them for a minute see if they read the new stuff...

One thing I do is make a specific request for votes and feedback in author's notes at the top and bottom of my stories. This does get a higher percentage of votes. I wouldn't expect too much though.

I checked and my vote rate hovers between less than 1% and ummm let me see... yep! less than 1%. I do have one story that hovers almost at... 1%. My feedback ratio for the people that votes seems to be higher than that but not a whole lot. I write longer stories typically in the 2 to 4 lit page range with a couple longer ones posted and have found that there's typically two general types of readers. Those that read and scroll one handed, in for the "quick fix" (I confess to being one of them from time to time... *Blush*) and those who are looking for entertainment with a healthy dose of eroticism thrown in for good measure (my more normal standard) looking for a story line, writing skill, creative descriptions etc. I find that the feedback I get will typically define the reader for me... "get to the point dude..." or "Beautiful story... oh! and I came too..."

What I've experienced here IMHO is a bunch of really creative, very talented people, that are slightly warped, that write because it's fun and posting here is a good learning experience to improve your writing skills with a subject that almost everyone, other than a few conscience impared people, consider a lot of harmless fun. (edited to include... Breathe!!! run on I know...)

Don't worry about the votes, write your style, take the feedback with a large grain of salt... (a pickup truck is usually required to carry that grain of salt btw), and have some fun.
