Hello all. I've been reading here for a while, and finally got the nerve to begin submitting. I would love any advice you have - especially from those that have been writing for a while.

So far people here seem very friendly and supportive - which is what I would expect. ;)

I just submitted my first story last night/this morning - and can't wait for it to be up. I'm eager for feedback.

Looking forward to meeting you!

Welcome to Lit and best advice is to have a lil bit of hard skin so to say. After all...as much as most people are nice...there are quite a few people whom are only here to put others down

You are so welcum to the AH. We are always glad to have a new one. We're having a bar-b-q this afternoon and YOU are invited. :)

Hey, Guys! Fresh meat! :D

Welcome! It's a pleasure to meet you. :)

Jag - you're on every thread I have read through this morning. I think I'm unconsiously stalking you. Just thought I'd give you a heads up to lock your doors and keep your shades drawn. :D

Thanks! And - yes - I can see that. Cause - you pour your 'heart and soul' into a piece - and then people don't respond kindly - I can see where that I would be a kick to the ol' self esteem if you aren't careful.

And - YUMMY!!! Bar-B-Que. What can I bring? How about some home made peach ice cream and a cobbler?

Avoid auxillary verbs, they give almost everything a passive voice. Place adjectives behind the subject. Stay away from nominalizations.

Awesome! Thanks for the advice - and - LOL - maybe I would want to bring more than just me. Don't want to show up empty handed. That would just be rude. ;)

FunwithRyleigh, Hi and welcome,

Be careful with jomar and Jenny, they tease. I'll go for the cobbler but I think they're joking.

As has been said, a thick skin is a prerequisite if you post. Just a thought, if you really want fair and untrolled comment on your story, when it is posted (about 7 days) stick a thread (and URL link) in story feedback and you'll be suprised at the the positive feedback you'll get.

Elle:D

Welcome, FunwithRyleigh, and let us know when your story is up (might take about two weeks for a first story).

Find an experienced author/editor to review your stories and help you improve them. A good editor can help you understand what isn't working and why.

Specially those that use 'whom' where they should use 'who'.;)

Sounds to me like they're planning on making you the main course. I'd watch out for those two... ;)

Welcome aboard.

Hi Ryleigh,

No advice I can offer other than have fun, flirt as best as you can, and make friends. That's the best aspects of this place.

Come on down this evening to the Naked Party Thread. That's where the real nut-cases hang out . . . and some of the sweetest people on Earth, as well. Just hang all clothes on a hook, grab a drink and try and fend off Mark . . . but not too hard, he get's lonely sometimes. ;)

Welcum to the AH! :rose:

As the others have so eloquently stated, maintain a certain objectivity toward your story postings and remember folks of many different tastes and attitudes read our stories.

Choose your posting categories carefully as they can have a profound influence on how it's received by the readers.

Loving Wives is the third rail of categories. Approach it with care.

An editor is an invaluable resource. There are many good ones here. Check the named thread.

Above all, have fun. :D
