I can't recommend any authors here, because I don't read much past the random commentary on this board. But...my advice would be to run like hell from here if'n you don't want to become addicted to the craziest place I've ever been.

Stonefox, I remember being brand new and that feeling of uncertainty. The stories are much fun. I just pretty much go by catagory. If it isn't my cup of tea, I just move on to another that catches my eye.
Read the FAQ's for the site. It will give you the information you need to feel comfortable quickly.
I am an infrequent poster, I only average about 4 posts a day. But then, I read the stories.
