New story posting issues

Hardly a fair comparison. Bad grammar, poor formatting etc. won't cause bodily harm or worse. However point taken.

I apologize for taking exception with the criticism that I asked for. It wasn't so much the criticism I took exception to, it was the manner it which it was given.

I could have been kinder with the criticism. It's not like I'm perfect or was even close when I started. My apologies for being harsh about it.

You know I always wanted to be a truck driver. Climb into one of those big rigs and aim it down the highway. Woohoo! :D

Don't need any experience. Rules...laws...bah! Why should I listen to anyone with experience? Hit the gas pedal and go like stink. What could go wrong?

What can go wrong? This:

I think there are different levels of licenses for different sizes of trucks. Driving a tractor-trailer requires a rather complicated level of skills.

My English was horrid, came from not actually going to class much. This poor English is in spite of being raised by a writer from my 13 birthday. I was a runaway, rebellious, stubborn, and didn't see a need for schooling. My father, with the patients of an oyster, eventually, got through to me.

Not claiming to be a good writer, not yet, but I'm better than I used to be. Book learning has it place, but reading, as much as learning English and Grammar, helps you to write better as well. And I read a lot of books, stories on here, everything I can get my hands on.

But, editors can be invaluable. Editing is the asshole end of writing.

EDIT: I put a signature on my profile, but don't see it on this post. Did screw it up?

I think the signature only appears when you click on the user name and then click "View Public Profile." A bit odd, but you'll see that for everybody's posts.

You can set your own forum view. I turn it all off so I don't see all of the bells and whistles and bright flashing lights in everyone's Sig Blocks, nor their avatars. It makes the threads much easier to read.

You can also turn your Sig Block on or off for individual posts, which can be handy sometimes.

I found this: "If the administrator has enabled signatures, then you will have the option to include your signature on any posts you make. If you have specified a signature, then the forum will automatically append your signature to any messages you post. You can disable signatures on a per-post basis by un-ticking the 'Show Signature' checkbox when you compose your message."

"You may turn the signature on and off on posts you have already made by editing the post and altering the state of the 'Show Signature' option."

Except, maybe I'm a bit dense, but I haven't yet found the Show Signature checkbox.

P.S.: I found it in the "Quick Reply" option, but nowhere else.

Go to Private Messages top right of this page, Edit Options and scroll down to select how you view the forum. There are three toggles for Avatar, Sig Blocks and something else (but I'm lazy).

When I reply to a quote (as I've done here) there are toggles for "Show your signature" and "Automatically parse links" and you can see the effect when you Preview.

If you're talking about the individual post one it's at the bottom of the reply page. Scroll down past submit into the manage attachments area.

I'm relatively new to posting stories here and posted two with 0 issues. They are a continuing story series, anyway like I said I posted the part and second part with no issues, and they were well received. Then I attempt to post parts 3 and 4 and they both get sent back with several points of concern.
My paragraph lengths were too long
Make sure all appropriate terms, names and paragraph beginnings are capitalized.
Use spell check.

So I go over both stories, shorten up the paragraphs, and spell check them. Resubmit them and the 3rd one is sent back saying spell check again. I suspect part 4 will be sent back.
Now I've had two different people check them. They said it looked fine to them.

Is the fact I'm spelling certain words the Canadian way and not the American way my issue here.

There are stories posted here the have horrid spelling and words just obviously missing but they get posted.

Advice??

Ok, I have only seen the first story that got posted that you linked, not the stories that got rejected (obviously!), but I don't think it's the Canadian vs. American spellings. You are making some mistakes consistently, and there are a few things that you can do to make big improvements to your writing.

1.) Watch your tense. You flip back and forth between past and present tense. The majority of your writing seems to be in past tense, so go through carefully to find any verbs in the present tense and change them.

2) Look at the rules for writing and punctuation dialogue. This will make a huge difference to the flow of your writing. https://bit****/2Xb9xvy

3.) Grammar can be fussy and complicated, so really focus on finding the easy stuff. These things are the low hanging fruit of the world of grammar:
- capitalize proper nouns and the beginning of sentences
- properly punctuate the ends of sentences
- put quotation marks around vocalized dialogue, but not internal thoughts or monologue
- outside of dialogue, make a new paragraph when you shift focus, even slightly. In my first story I got some feedback that my paragraphs were a bit long, especially for people reading on smaller devices. Your paragraphs get longer in the sex scenes - break that up and slow it down a little.

Finally, I find it really, really helpful to read my work aloud. This helps me find mistakes that I would miss ordinarily, especially autocorrected words that are technically spelled correctly, but aren't the correct word for the situation.

Best of luck!

All right, it's already checked - by default? I didn't have to do it myself.

Well, it shows up in the preview, but not the actual message. Does it have something to with the browser? (This one is Chrome.) I mean, do you see it on your browser screen? I don't.

The signature is there. I opened the page in a different browser where I wasn't logged in. You just don't see your own signature.

I'll take your word on that. It's been a long time since I looked at the site without being logged in.

Oh, you are right. I went in through Microsoft Edge, which I almost never use (I don't even remember why I got it) and I can see my own too. I wonder why being logged in or not would be used as a criteria for seeing them?
