I was just looking through New Stories, and opened up @oneagainst's "Night Duty Manager". I liked it, so I clicked through to oneagainst's profile, which opens at the Newest view of Works.

And "Night Duty Manager" isn't there as of posting this. Clicking through to Alphabetical did show it.

So, @Manu, @Laurel, is this related to the other recent display glitches, e. g. comments only appearing if you choose "Newest First" (which applies, by the way, to NDM)? I know you rarely post in this area, but can we get any kind of a hint?

(BTW, oneagainst: that's a fine story.)

Thanks. As I believe you, or one of your collective, already detected, it's part of a much larger, multi-year effort. There will be borrowings of characters from other authors, cross-references across story universes. But first, you have to establish the bad-guy. As for newest, that changes every week. I'm as regular as... ah no, that's a slippery slope into scat references.

I have noticed the same things. I'm new here so didn't even know it had ever been any other way.

- comments don't show up unless ordered Newest First

- stories marked as published in My Home/Works don't show up in my Profile until a day or two later

Today, 12/2, just say my three poems show as published in My Home/Works, but they do not appear when I look at my Profile. Is this expected behavior or not?

They are marked published but they are still in the Pending tab
and I don't have "successfully published" activity for any of them.

No poems listed below, in Profile.
This happened earlier too with published stories, they appeared a day or so later.

Lit can be pretty quirky. There are always delays between different sections of the site. Sometimes it can take days for changes / updates to propagate to other parts of the site. Aside from a few lost comments I haven't seen too much go wonky. :)

I can live with that. XD So long as stuff shows up eventually, I'm happy.

I think, technically, it's down to page caching. If you're trying to serve 24M people, you need to build the pages and then cache them for an amount of time, then let them expire and rebuild. I noticed that some of my stories have the wrong follower counts, etc. and it's the same with comments. If you go into your admin section and click on the comments icon for your story, what you see is up-to-the-second true because those are generated (AFAIK) on demand from the database, just for you.

It just seemed weird to me that one tab on the "live" comments page would be correct, but the other tab is outdated. I think you're probably right, and they're generated by different scheduled jobs, but of course I know nothing about the underlying code or data structures.
