My female character has fallen in love with someone (male) who is into serious BDSM practises and because she wants to make him happy and she feels this is a good way to get closer to him she plays along for a while. However, not being used to such treatment, after a while she begins to bristle slightly at his tone, his degredation of her and his constant controlling mannerisms. Her compliancy begins to alter and she starts out being casually rebellious by answering him back then moves to total non-cooperation making him angry. Female subs, in other BDSM stories are always totally compliant. I'm going to have her feeling confused and have her debating within herself what is more important: compliance with his need to dominate her or her need not to feel owned and feel humiliated by his practises.
What I want to know to make the story realistic is: is there ever 'compromise' (underlined and in capitals) in reality in such a full-on relationship and if I make his character suddenly more amicable and more understanding of what she is feeling, is that going to ruin the story?
