Hello there,

Basically, it's more just me testing the poll function, but while we're at it, might as well ask a good question... :)

So, I was wondering... New stories: do you check them out? Do you wait for feedbacks? Do you give them time to mature before checking?

I look at the new stories each time I notice an update. However, there are a limited number of topics that are generally of interest to me, and I also find that a lot of CHYOO's new stories are either dull, or so absurd that I can't get into them. I have a dozen or so favorites that I stick with.

Also, I don't like to add to a story unless the editor has already established it pretty well. If they've done their job well, that happens in the very first thread (though often I wait until it's two threads deep just so I don't run the story off in an unintended direction). The thing I hate most is when the first thread reads something like:

You have the opportunity to go on a cruise in a ship full of beautiful women! Do you go?

That's kind of a no-brainer, isn't it? I mean, what are we doing here if not to say "YES" to potential lusty sex? But this happens all the time. I think that sometimes authors feel that they must insert a choice at every possible turn, without realizing that the kind of choices we want to make are not "yes" or "no", but "blonde" or "brunette". With rare exception, I think an editor should always assume that the reader wants to eventually have sex. So to speak. So a better opening would be summarized as:

You have the opportunity to go on a cruise in a ship full of beautiful women! You'll be allowed to bring a guest. The question is, do you bring your wife (whom you've long suspected to be a closet bisexual), do you bring your secretary (under the guise that it's a business trip), do you hire a professional escort, or shall you just go alone?

That sets up a real choice, and any of those options could lead to an interesting story. Actually, I may expand on that idea myself, it might be good.

You know what, this is getting a little more involved that I suspect bungakawa had in mind for this thread. I think I'll start a new thread about "what makes a good CHYOO story".

New stories...

Hello,
for me when I scan through the stories I read the summary and such. I feel the summary is a good indication of what the story will be. If it is poorly worded, or has grammar and spelling errors I am less likely to read it. It's like going to the book store and reading the back cover of new books. Some people argue that the introduction of the story is the most important thing. I disagree. The summary is key. In order to get the reader to the introduction you have to grab them with the summary!

that's all I gots to say about that.

I didn't vote!

It all depends on the mood I'm in.

If I'm in the mood to write for a new story, then I check the new stories posts. If I see one from one of the regular contributors to the boards, I usually read it to get a feel as to where the story is going.

However, if I'm in the mood to read, and don't have time to write, I don't bother with the new stories, because they're not involved enough at that point, and I wait to see if anyone else has contributed. Deeper threaded stories are more appealing to me at that point.

Lately, I've been in the mood to drive a lot of my older threads, making them wider and deeper, making more choices, etc.

So in all honesty, I couldn't pick just one answer to your question. It all depends on the mood I'm in when I'm CHYOO'ing!

Read them right away

I always enjoy checking out the new stories right away. I also am looking for a good hook to start a new line of threads. I think that is the fun part of Chyoo, seeing what other people can come up with to stimulate my imagination.

The good thing about a poor starting thread is that the following threads can improve it greatly. Look at some of the most popular and long stories on Chyoo, many had a very short, or poor starting thread, but the threads that came after them improved, expanded and developed the story.

:D

I will admit I have had a tendency to write more stories I've already contributed to than any new ones. I did write for a new story called Erotic Couplings, a lot of the time I tend to forget to check the new stuff out but when I do a lot of them don't grab me.

lol

at least you're honest!

I check the new stories only if I'm super bored or if someone has put an ad up for them. Usually I like to look through the older stories, too, although it's a lot easier to get something posted on a new one where the editor is still super-excited and ready to respond.

Hmmmmmm well I like to wait till a couple of posts have been made by the creator, that way I know the editor is actually interested in the story and working towards making it...as compared to some people whom post an entry thread and perhaps one more before abandoning it.
