New search page - UGH!

It takes up screen real estate with category listings that I don't wan't; the ad stuff won't stay closed when going to a different page.

How do I get the "old way" back?

Can you explain the comment about Categories taking up screen space? Where are you seeing a Category list on the new search page? We have optional Categories that you can select in the Advanced Search, but they should not be showing on the search page unless you expand the search to use extra options.

As far as the ad at the top, it should stay closed once closed. Can you confirm which browser you are using where it doesn't stay closed and under what circumstances? I just tested it in Chrome and Firefox and it stayed closed in both. It uses cookies to remember your choice, not sure if you are blocking cookies?

Sorry, by categories I meant Popular Searches. Okay, two things I really like about the new search are: 1. letting us know the score for each story, and 2. 50 instead of 20 results per page.

I'm using firefox (latest update) on Windows 10. After looking at several pages in the search,the ad comes back on - it may be a timer thing, not sure.

I don't believe I'm blocking cookies, I'll check.
