First, we will be discussion stories ONLY from the author request thread. Laurel’s pick is about the only exception to that. I’ll be emailing those authors that have requested discussion on their stories, and will delete their request if the email isn’t answered, or if the author asks for their entry to be removed. ALWAYS the author will have the option to opt out of discussing thier stories up until the moment their discussion thread is posted.

Now, down to the basic rules...

1) Participation in the discussion by the author of the story is a MUST.

2) If an author has a story in the request thread, then they MUST join in the discussion of at least one story a month while their story is in queue. If you miss a month, I’ll notice, and your story will be taken out of the queue. You can re-submit it, but it will be at the end of the queue again. It’s only fair to reward those who participate more, so it’s possible your story might move ahead if you participate a lot!

3) I’ll be advertising each story as it hits discussion on the feedback thread. If the author would rather do this, please let me know via email. Plus, tell all your friends and admirers when your story hits the boards! I’ll be posting something on ‘how to critique’ in order to help those readers who have no idea what to say or even look for in a story. Every opinion is valid, and this might help those who don’t know how to express their opinion.

4) I would like the author to put the first post on each story, and give us an idea of the kinds of things you want discussed. IE -- grammar, style, storyline, etc. Give us a little background on WHY you wrote the story, which will help us understand where you’re coming from. After the author posts, the rest of us can go at it.

That’s it. I’ll be posting a new thread for requests, with instructions on how to request. (Yeah, I know it’s simple, but I’d like certain information in order to make my job easier.)

I’m going to try to get the first story up for discussion with the new rules by Friday, October 5th. The first author on the old list that emails me back will be the lucky party! So, please, if you’re still interested, let me know.

Let’s make this an enjoyable learning experience for all of us, both reader and writer alike!

Notice?

Mickie -

To try and help insure that the author is the first to post in the thread on their story, is there any way that you can send out a "Hey, your story 'such-and-such' is going to be posted for discussion on 'this date'" A week before the posting date?

I know it's probably impossible to guarentee a notice more than a week ahead due to the possibility of an author not participating and getting bumped (by the new rules), but a week should be do-able, no?

A sugg.

Hi, Judo -- I think I mentioned in the new request thread (I think, although I'm not sure and I have holes in my memory a semi could drive through) that I would email each author two days ahead of posting. Do we need a full week to write an intro post? Any other opinions? That would be do-able, if we thought we needed that long.

A week

Mick -

No, it's not time for the intro post (that should only take a few minutes or an hour tops).

It's the time to be certain that the author will: be in town and get the email.

I would send out the email and if I didn't get a reply within a few days either bump the story a week or wait until you get a reply from the author. In the meantime, you could alert the author next in line that they are "in the slot and should be ready to go."

Another idea would be just accept introductions to the stories ahead of time and have them waiting in your hands (maybe too much for you to keep track of, but it makes the getting the intro in a timely manner easier).

By the rules, you should be able to tell a week ahead of time who will be "up" next, I think.

Good idea. If it's all right with everyone else, I'll email a week ahead of time. If the email isn't answered in two days, I'll notify the next in line. Does that work?

I just wanted to say thanks a ton to Weird Harold and Christo for being the brains behind this wonderful forum, thanks to Mickie for picking up the reins, and thanks to all the awesome authors for their stories and their insightful comments in this forum. Good work, everyone!

I'd like to thank Christo and WH as well! It's a chore wading through all of this and they did a good job! I'm just doing a little fine tuning. They did the real work in the first place.

And thanks go to Laurel as well. If we didn't have such an admirable leader we'd have nothing to discuss! And thanks for making these sticky. I was hoping you would.;)
