Hello everyone...

We're working on the new backend for the site and would like you to check it out and give us your input. We haven't finished putting every story and poem into it, but we're getting close. Browse around, read a few stories, do a lot of voting, try out everything... Please let us know if you find any mistakes, including broken links, random errors, blatant typos, or anything else worth mentioning.

This is the bare bones backend upon which we plan to add many new features and fun stuff in the next few years. The most important thing right now, though, is to make sure that the basics are working solidly and that there are no major problems.

If you want to log in to your account and update your profile, submit stories, or just look around, please be aware that your Bulletin Board username and password are your site username and password. If you have stories in the new site, it means that you already have a username and password. All you need to do to get your password is go to the login page and click on the "send me my password" link. From there, you will be able to have the script automatically mail your password. If you have any problems logging in or if you need help, please email me and we can make it work! :)

Just a thought...

When I went to check and change my profile, when I had done enough for the min, I clicked submit changes button.

But not seeing it "do" anything I clicked it again. How about a page like the posting page?
Thanking you for the changes, at least then you know not to just keep clicking it, LOL @ me.

Hi Laurel. One thing I liked better before was it was easier to find a person through members profiles. Before, you had the names in three sections alphabetically. I would then, just click on the section with the letter. Now there are a whole bunch of numbers. How is one to know which number their name is under? It took me awhile to find where I was listed in number 20. I have a friend that wants to check this site out. How would he ever know how to find me when there is just this huge list of numbers under members?
It is just alot easier having the list in 3 alphabetical sections as you had before, my opinion anyways.

Also, when I updated my profile, I found out I now have two profiles. Katerina and Katerina Val-Kryie. The Katerina one does not have my stories listed either. Is this supposed to happen? When I updated my profile, I thought it would update my existing one, not create a new one. This is too weird. Please explain this...as I am abit dense here. Thanks

Katerina

Laurel, you might want to check out the top 10 posters section. All bio info is listed in a colums

If you don't want you e-mail address published, get an anonymous e-mail address like Hotmail, Excite, Yahoo, Netscape, etc. Provide one here that you don't mind having published.

Looks good so far!

What's the time frame for posting stories submitted under the new script? Only wondering cuz I have submitted 6 new stories. Laurel, I don't know if this matters to anyone else who has multiple stories in the queue, but I would prefer those stories get spaced at least a day apart when they do get posted.

I disagree with Chef about the e-mail addresses. I would like to see every members e-mail address available somewhere. Anyone concerned about confidentiality can get a Literotica or Hotmail, etc., address in a few minutes. Anybody who frequently uses other people's computers because they are too lazy to drag their laptop everywhere, etc., knows what I'm talking about. I'm not about to send an e-mail off the BB while using someone else's computer. I can, however, go to Hotmail and send an e-mail if I have the person's e-mail address.

Laurel, is there some way you can control each author's "Your Stories" list such that you can update it with the status of the story? Those 6 stories of mine I referred to show as "pending." Now, I don't know if you received the Word attachments properly or not. I don't know if you have reviewed and "accepted" the stories or not. What I'm getting at that if you could post such information on each author's story list for "pending" stories you could likely eliminate the need to send individual e-mails. It would be the author's responsibility to check the status on his/her "Your Stories" list.

The point is we should have been consulted before our personal email address was revealed. That would have given us the chance to get an anonymous email address first. It's a bit late once our address has already been revealed. (Shit, mine contains my name. )

I,m not suprised Deborah is in favour of it though. She's already tried to track one member down through personal information.

Considering Laurel asked Lasher to edit his post when he revealed Ramlick's email address. I hope she will now do the same to our profiles.

(This user has spent the last half hour trying too edit his fucking profile.)

Get your story straight, asshole. The moron flamed me with e-mails which revealed her "personal" information, which I BTW have never revealed here. Track her down? ROFLMAO!

Bet me. Money talks and bullshit walks. I got the e-mails.

And why might I think that you may be that moron?

Hi, Katerina. I think I might be able to answer this part of your question for ya. I was the one who created the Katerina Val-Kyrie name for ya as part of the process of adding stories.

As of this morning there were 3498 stories in the database. Now, from what I've seen, there's probably an average of 2.5 stories per author, so there's probably somwhere around 1250 author's names, plus all the BB members, in the Members list.

Now here's the thing, a lot of authors have stories listed under more than one name. It's tough to know whether or not this is how the AUTHOR still wants these stories listed, or whether they would like them consolidated under one name, or under which name they would like them consolidated. Believe me, moving the stories to the new database is a time consuming process. To email each author - who may or may not still be interested, and who may or may not respond - with questions like that would have prolonged this process so much longer. I think, and I hope Laurel and Manu agree with me on this, that it will be much easier to get the stories moved over, and then address individual questions from the authors as they come up.

What does that mean? It means that when I got to those stories that were submitted under the name Katerina Val-Kyrie, I created a profile for that name and entered the stories under it. If you'd like them consolidated under just the name of Katerina, then send Laurel an email and we can make the change.

Now the other part. The way I understand the script, if we list those stories under both names, Katerina, their going to show up on the story list twice. So I'm thinking, unless Laurel and Manu know something about this I don't (which is entirely possible, LOL), that you'll need to choose one name or the other.

Hope this helps.

Gotta stand with you on this one, Deborah. If 'Concerned' [a guest, even] isn't alert enough to use an anonymous e-mail address in an arena where he is concerned about being identified, then maybe he shouldn't be allowed free and unfettered access to a keyboard.

Why is it so many people are so convinced that it's the responsibility of others to think for them and look out for them? No wonder they vote for the Algores of politics; they NEED a nanny!

BTW, Laurel, I like your new thingy!!! :D

I don't particularly like the bulletin board posts being included within the author's index... I bookmark that page to send to people to read stories and poems, not the things I post on the board.

I noticed that when I changed my profile I was asked if I wanted my email addy to be visible, and it clearly said YES or NO. For those inquiring minds who want to know. Thanks Laurel, I like your backend very well.

All these different profiles are making me confused.
As far as the B.B profiles go,
I thought clicking NO, to the "hide email address", just gave you the email icon under your post and a link in your profile that said "click here to e mail so and so". Clicking YES, just disabled them. Your actual email address didn't appear anywhere, unless you typed it in yourself.

My Dear

Lasher, thanks so much for that lengthly response, I appreaciate it. Katerina Val-Kyrie is my original profile, that is the one I want to keep. I went into the new scripts just trying to update it and came up with another one, obviously. (Katerina) I also noticed that both profiles are different somewhat. The newer has a section with alot more info at the top, where as my original one does not. I would still like to edit my original Val-Kyrie profile, but when I try I get taken to the Katerina one. I am still most confused...Must be my old age...LOL My Preference is to stay Miss Katerina Val-Kyrie, please and thank you... Hugs :) :) :)

Katerina,

You can keep them both if you want. One for the BB and one for your stories. However you want to do that. To edit your Katerina Val-Kyrie profile you'll need to get the password for it... Just follow the instructions Laurel gave above for having your password sent to you. Any profiles we've had to make while adding stories to the new site we've had to enter passwords for. If you can't get it to work for you that way, send me an email and I can send you the password I used for that profile, I'm pretty sure I have it here somewhere. But I would definitely suggest when you do get in to edit your profile that you change the password.

I was reading a story in the new section, when I hit the back button I came all the way back to here, skipping at least two pages. Idon't have a problem with the email addy, but then I have a hotmail account that is dedicated to lit traffic. I can see haow it could be a problem for those that use only one or two accounts.

Hi everybody! Thanks for looking around the script...

Submitted a poem and now see that in the subheading for it however my submitted photo does not show where it should

Anything submitted - stories, poems, pics - will not show up until it's approved on our end. That's why any poems or stories you submit will show up on your page as "pending". :)

Whats with those numbers alongside the story categories cause I cant work it out

Those are those number of stories in that particular category (so far).

Do we really want to show anyone our email adress? The way you had it before with click here to email worked better I thought

I'll take a look at this issue and try to figure out the best way to handle it. The problem is that there is very little emailing that goes on through the bulletin board, but there is a HUGE amount of email that goes through the Author Pages. The question in the BB admin area has always been "Hide email address?" If someone chooses "No", then that should indicate that they don't want their email address hidden. We tried to make it very clear with the "Hide - Yes or No" because we knew that eventually the email addresses that were not hidden would in fact be displayed. I'm going to think more about this issue and continue working on it along with the other stuffs.

I know it might be confusing to have two separate places to edit your profile. Eventually, all links will go to one profile, but for now we have two. The BB profile and the site profile access the exact same data, so if you change your info in one place it will change it in both.

Any changes you make to your member profile will be available online within 12 hours. The reason for the lagtime has to do with trying to make the site as fast and hardware efficient as possible. As we tweak and tune the new site, the lagtimes will change and eventually someday it might even be instant. Realize, of course, that any lagtime that the script has is far less than the old "Laurel lagtime". :) If you've made a change to your profile and NEED it to go up immediately, you can email me and I'll do my best to update that page, but PLEASE use this sparingly!

Click here for a bio and to find more submissions by AnonSky Why are both ends highlited to click on?

To give you more choices....lol... :) Thanks for the help...will fix that duplicate story. No, most of the poetry isn't in yet, but will be.

Hi Laurel. One thing I liked better before was it was easier to find a person through members profiles. Before, you had the names in three sections alphabetically.

Hi Katerina! Because of the large number of members now listed, if we separated them into three pages they would take a very long time to load. We have them split into smaller pages so that they load quickly. Also, I will email you re: consolidating your two profiles into one. :)

There may be other people that have a similar situation. No one should have two accounts. If you find you have more than one account, PLEASE email me.

Please keep the questions, suggestions, bug reports, flowers, candy, and compliments coming. thanks! :)

Laurel, I don't know if this matters to anyone else who has multiple stories in the queue, but I would prefer those stories get spaced at least a day apart when they do get posted.

If you send me a series, I will still post them one at a time, once a day, as I always have. :)

Now, I don't know if you received the Word attachments properly or not. I don't know if you have reviewed and "accepted" the stories or not.

Here's the deal...while I've asked people to submit using the new system, we haven't officially "opened for business", so to speak. Our main priority is getting ALL the old stories into the script. If I began approving the new stories you all submitted, then they would be mixed in with the old stories and by the time we actually launched the new script, they'd be scrolled off into the archives. So for now, anything that's submitted is in waiting. Right before we launch the new backend, I will go through, edit, and approve all those you have submitted. This way, all those stories will still be "new". Hope this makes sense! :)

Cool

Didn't look much, didn't have much time, but I like the page you see after voting

Having fun testing the new site...

Hey all & hope you're well -

Just a quick check in on a couple of issues:

1) Please let me know your opinion on having a link to the BB posts on the member page. One person has said they don't like the idea so I would like to hear what the rest of you think. The member page is supposed to be kind of a "central" location where someone can find out everything about a specific member. If the link to the BB posts is "too much information", we can always remove it. But, I certainly want to get an idea of what a bunch of you think before making any decisions.

2) The email display issue is at the top of my list. Laurel and I are thinking of trying to implement something like what the bulletin board uses (where a viewer can email a member via a form) site wide. There are a couple of potential problems with this idea, but we could try to work it out if this solution seems best to most of you.

Here are some of my concerns about doing it that way: A) Could have some negative impact on the server if people send a lot of mail; B) Potential for abuse (spam, harassment, etc) if people are allowed to send anon email via our server; C) A form does not have all the cool features (spell check, for example) that a normal email program offers.

The upside is that your email address would never be revealed publicly to anyone unless you responded to the mail sent to you via the site.

Please let me know your thoughts, concerns, and suggestions regarding these issues.

Thanks a bunch, take care, and have a great weekend.
