Actually, you will lose your "virginity" at 30 posts - many of you are almost there. You will stay "Experienced" until, I think, 60 posts. Then you become "Very Experienced" until around 120 posts. You stay "Very, Very Experienced" until 500 posts, then you become a "Literotica Guru". After 1,000 you can choose your own title. Oh, and once you reach 100 posts, you can post an avatar (that little picture that appears to the left of my post).

But, yes, those are real pics of real people. For those of us with exhibitionist tendencies, it provides a wonderful outlet for that, without having the world know exactly who we really are.
And, by all mean, don't be fearful of approaching some one who has been here longer or who has more posts than you. We all started somewhere. I would recommend, however, going beyond the "Personals" page. Literotica has a lot of offer - "How To", "General Board", Role Play, "Story Ideas", all sorts of stuff to investigate!

Ragingbull, the PM system here shocked me the first time I got one. Couldn't figure out what that little box was that popped up on the screen!
You will find that most avatars are not the person themselves. Although, there is currently a fad underway here at Lit that people are posting pics of themselves as AVs. Usually just facial shots, though there are a few more risque ones. (they are rare, however, otherwise one could become inundated with PMs!)

As a "newbie" I find this whole thing fascinating and people generally seem to be really nice. I must confess that to start with I just watched what was going on and then started to post a couple of messages/comments. Jesus is it addictive or what. I'm going away next week and won't be able to catch up until 2nd week Jan and already feeling withdrawal symptoms!

I don't think being a newbie has anything to do with the # of posts you accumulate. I have seen some "newbies" who have only been here a couple months with more posts than me. One thing all newbies should realize; it's not the quantity of your posts but the quality! Also, I truely believe that you stop being a newbie when you stop feeling like one and you begin feeling like you belong, like you are part of the Lit family!
