Allrighty, so I am not too up-to-date on the Girl Scout cookie phenomenon...when did they add the Pinatas? They look like little strawberry jam danishes, has anyone had them?

I get a sweet tooth on occasion and wouldn't mind having a box or two around but I'm not sure on how I'd feel breaking tradition from the Samoas, Thin Mints and PB Patties! :)

Give me the scoop!

They're really really good. And sold out up here.

Wanna do me a favor?;)

One of the scouts let us have a cookie to try them. Yumm.

Canada too but they have like a hundred kinds in the USA and we have like, one

Muahahaha....myyyyyy connection has tons of boxes of them, they just came to work today. If'n I'm figuring right, we don't live all that terribly far apart, no? :)

Maybe I'll have to try them! If I don't care for them too much I can always leave them open at work. You know hospital staff, we eat everything in sight.

Girl scout cookies?? This must be another american thing?!

Yes Miss_Mimi. They are these deeeelicious cookies, made from real Girl Scouts(Tm)!!!

yeah, I know...bad joke, bad movie. So sue me!

Basically it's this fundraising push by the Girl Scouts, a huge organization I don't have the knowledge or time to really explain :) They have been around for ages and most folks can't remember not growing up with them anymore. It's kind of nice to see them over here, where I don't spend a lot of time steeping myself in American stuff!

 It's girl scout cookie time????? I want some Carmel Delites. mmmmmmm carmel.

NONONO, they're Samoas darnit! *stomp*

Why on earth did they change half the cookie names a while back anyway? It confused the hell outta me!

MPS is a wonderful thing. ;)

Actually, I need to ask around a bit. There has to be some floating around somewhere!

Typical Schinnen. Everything sells out quickly, and there's never enough of anything.

Thin Mints rule!

As for the new cookie, they do a new one every year.

And when you locate your neighborhood girl scout, can ya send her over here to? thanks

;) They were originally Carmel Delites, then Samoas and finally back to Carmel Delites. I refuse to call the Samoas. ;)

Really? Hrm, for some reason I always remember them being Samoas, even when I sold the damnable things for the year that I was a brownie :) Either way, they are definitely one of the most deeeeelicious of the GSCs!

Ah well, the verdict on the new cookie=a little too sweet for my taste, but both boxes I bought and put at the nurse's station were gone halfway through shift. Success!

Sorry it took me so long to get into this thread! I've been off doing Girl Scout stuff all day!!!

I've been a leader for 10 years - have a daughter in scouts who is selling cookies as we speak - but no longer door to door as it's not cool being a Girl Scout when you are 15!

The cookies (in the USA) come from 2 or 3 different bakeries. Depends on which bakery your local council uses as what they are called.

Everyone sells the basic 5 - and then can have 3 that vary from bakery to bakery.

Trefoils - or Shortbread cookies
Samoas - or Caramel delights
Thin Mints - or Thin Mints (why mess with the best)
Do-si-dos - or Peanut butter creme cookies
Tagalongs - or Peanut butter patties (the ones covered in choc.)

Our council doesn't have the Pinatas - but the council in Houston does. I ordered a box from the other two girls (parents) here at my office. They ordered some of mine that are different as well.

We both have a chocalate animal cookie type - theirs is called an Animal Cookie - ours is All Abouts (they have sayings on them - Girl Scouts is All About "Values" or "Fun" or "Cookie" or something else).

We also have a Lemon Coolers - which is reduced fat - a lemon cookie with powdered sugar. And we have Double Dutch - a chocolate cookie with chocolate chips - sure to be a hit with all the chocolate cravings!

If any of you are in the Houston area and want to order some I'll take your order - bump up my daughter's numbers - and will make arrangements to deliver them to you in person! (Just think of all the Lit people I could meet!)

More than you ever wanted to know about Girl Scout cookies I bet!!!

OMG I need some peanut butter cookies right now!

Is it possible to order them over the net? One of the things I miss most about the US is access to Reeses and to Nutter Butters :( They just don't do the whole peanut butter thing over here.

I can tell you that girls individually aren't suppose to sell over the net (am I breaking the rules?). But there might be a site where you can order them. I'll look into it - but you can do a google as well.

Mmmm!

No wonder I was confused about all the names...I figured maybe when I moved after living in ID for so long that they had done some wild renaming scheme to sell more cookies or something!

It's kind of strange here overseas. They don't really do the individual sale thing as much, from my understanding they buy boxes of them and then sell them in public areas...it sure seems like it's changed a lot since the time I was a Girl Scout as a little lass :)

Oooh, and Peachy? I SO feel your pain! The German PB is just nowhere as good to me! It's funny, when the Bundeswehr and Luftwaffe first started getting some privileges over here at shoppettes and commissaries and the like, the peanut butter was out of stock in a flash!

I did but didn't find a way I could order them. The whole exercise only made me want them more:(

I would just die.

hehe... you're still trying to get someone to mail cookies to you, AREN'T you. :p

Yes I am. :D I'm willing to pay. I don't want them for free.

It's probably for the best the Pinatas are hard to acquire. We have enough sweets in the house already. lol

But I thought you said the other morning that you COULD buy cookies where you are. Or is it just the pinatas you can't get?

I've tried them....they're okay. I prefer the lemon pastries frozen. :D

By the way I'm a troop leader if ya'll need some cookies!!
