Like many others, I have been a lurker here for years.

I finally have a story in which I feel confident enough to submit, but I am incredibly self-conscious at screwing up on my first go round, and forever labeling myself as 'complete newb'.

I have perused the forums, as well as read the FAQ. I understand that I can request the assistance of a Volunteer Editor, and I have also seen stories (or at least the beginnings of stories) posted in the forums.

I would love to have a few folks pre-read the story if possible, for feedback, recommendations, help with story tags, etc. What is the best venue for doing so? Submitting it to an editor just seems like such a formal process, when I don't know if my story is ready for that yet.

Any help or guidance on how to move forward would be GREATLY appreciated!

Story feedback would be the place to go. But why not start by telling us what kind of story you've got? That way you can find authors best able to help you (for example, if it's an erotic horror story, you probably want someone who knows something about writing those).

The category will most likely be Erotic Couplings.

That's the catch-all category :) is it male-female, or same sex? happy, sad? romantic, or hardcore- or romantic AND hardcore?

Sorry.

Male - female, with a playful, yet deliberate, romantic theme. It started as a Valentine's Day submission, but it changed as it evolved.

Not hardcore, but it does have a light fetish twist. Emphasis on the light.

I'd still suggest an editor...

but I'd be happy to look at it for you, PM me if you want :)

Ah, don't be too shy. Look at this way: you've managed to make your first few posts without including gratuitous mispellings, arrant rudeness, or graphic images of / explicit requests for sexual favors. You're ahead the pack already. :)

(Best luck on the editing - I would offer myself but I shouldn't even be here right now. Back to the heap o' work for me ...)

Post and duck

Editing is always a good idea. However, I firmly believe that any artist or author must always be their own biggest fan and harshest critic.

That said, sometimes I've seen reviews where people were just snippy and petty. You have to sift through the feedback as much as readers have to sift through the stories.

I would also suggest not waiting, but just push forward, and then go from there. If it's something you really want to do, then do it.

In all of the years I have been on and around the internet, one fact has stood out as glaringly obvious.

It isn't that hard to stay ahead of the general pack currently surfing.

I have been a fan and admirer of the authors on Literotica for years. Somehow, I don't think showing up with "a/s/l?" was a great way to thank anyone for the stories they have written.

Thank you all for the guidance. SelenaKittyn graciously offered to check it over, and I am going to take her up on it.

Here's hoping she can do it without laughing TOOO hard.

I like Thambok! Thanks for the grin as I read this. It's good to have you amongst us.

Buffet here, drinks in Abstrusions...

I could get used to this place.

Just don't get between me and the alfalfa waffles.

Oh, honey. Those are not waffles. Those are individual cheese souffles leftover from New Year's Eve.

A/S/L?

(Agenda? Suspicions? Lutheran?)

Age/Sex/Location

Pretty common in chat rooms, and unsolicited IMs. Pretty much the cyber equivalent of "Nice shoes. Wanna fuck?"

But, without the class.

Maybe its me, but I just think a line used to try to get laid should be at least as long as the username. Guess I am just getting old.

Wow.

The waffles were plenty safe from me. Doubly so for the souffles.

Ick.

Thanks! I feel welcome!

AH has been a very welcoming place, but some of my forays into the other areas have been a bit frightening.

Went in to the GB, eh? Hope there's no scarring?

Welcome thambok. I think you'll fit right in.

Welcome Tham.....

Yeah, forays into the GB are made with full biological and radiation suits.... and then there is a 3 day decontamination period mandatory....

Other than there, you're pretty safe, although you might need to keep a chair and whip handy for the political threads...

Oh and be warned, Abs does bite... she just blames it on the Doberman......

Happy AHing

I like you and I totally agree. I started a thread over on the personals board awhile back, complaining about the whole A/S/L thing.

Welcome to the AH :D

The official Shanglan seal of approval. Wear it with pride. :) If you really wann get on Shanglan's favorable side, don't make appealing suggestions involving a briar patch. ;)

If you're still looking for another pair of eyes. Drop me a PM. It's been a while since I helped someone with a story look over, and I do enjoy helping out whenver I can. Welcome to the AH. Forget about being insane. Just accept it, join in, and be jovial. :cathappy:
