New Art and Architecture Thread

cool thread.

a little description of the purpose of the building or intent of the art might be nice for those of us who are amateurs

Sure. This was a little Christian church for a fundamentalist congregation, no ornament or overt symbolism. It was a project, what they eventually built was verrah different. The "dippin' pool" would have been outside; they also wanted to be able to play basketball inside.

I guess. They aspired to become one of those mega-churches, open 24/7 with a program for everyone: Christian Singles, AA, MADD. You know, "Walmart for the Soul."

In his 1985 book House, Tracy Kidder wrote that the architect claimed he did his best thinking in the bathtub.

Is there a market for floating draught tables?

I wouldn't think so, but I'm sure the average draughting table will span the width of a tub. It's all about structure. Well, that and function and art. You know, the ol' Vitruvian triumverate: Firmness, Commodity and Delight. ;)

Wasn't Socrates in the bath when he drank the hemlock?
I'm not sure. Maybe you're thinking of Marat.

Cool thread, kotori. There's something about hand-drawn prints. There kind of like black & white photos in their appeal.

OK, my stuff isn't nearly as complex, but here's a little project from a few years ago, before I graduated to CAD. The inset image is after fabrication and installation.

Not nearly as complex! Dood, whatchu been smoking? That's gorgeous.

I agree. I like drawing on the 'puter, but the result does not have the same qualities as an image; gets the job done, but it's not the same.

I have pics of Art Nouveau but not my doing.
Your art is photography; your subject is the puppy. That's some doing.
