Rules?

STD -

First of all, let me say that there are no steadfast rules for our poetry forum. Well, perhaps other than "try to be civil."

You've already done that, so...

I don't know if "best place" really fits here for sharing poetry, since we seem to like to share poetry almost anywhere...on the boards, certainly in any poetry forum thread, and of course, posting it as a submission.

Once in a while, someone will post a challenge thread, like the one that TJ just started about the Holocaust here in the Poetry forum. These are intended to strike a chord with all the poets, so that they can use them for inspiration to write.

And often the "challenges" are submitted with rules, such as words or phrases that cannot be used, so it becomes more of a mental challenge to create, much like a word puzzle.

Also, poets often would like to get feedback on a poem before they "publish" it as a submission, so they will start a thread about their poem, looking for criticisum or feedback. Much as you did with your first poem in your other thread.

But please, feel free when the moment grabs you to lay down inspiratoin anywhere here! On the boards, in the forums, at the gas station...anywhere.

I think you should try and post to a thread where your poem is either inspired by the subject matter there or to post a new thread looking for criticism. There are several writers here who will not give feedback unless there is an open invitation for such (They've been burnt by others before, so now they're cautious).

There is also a pretty good thread that was started by Killermuffin in this forum entitled "Give me Feedback please!" It's basically a discussion concerning participation within a forum like this.

Basically, many of us want to hear how our work effects others, but most of the time, we don't hear it. The "rule" that perky mentioned in your other thread is "to recieve feedback, comment on at least two other poems."

This, of course, doesn't always work - we should probably never expect something in return for our good deeds - but hopefully, if more of us do it, then we should get some good habits going there, too.

I'm sure there's more good stuff that I haven't mentioned, isn't there poets?

;)
