Family First Senator Steve Fielding wants hardcore pornography and fetish material blocked under the Government's plans to filter the internet, sparking renewed fears the censorship could be expanded well beyond "illegal material".

The Opposition said it would most likely block any attempts to introduce the controversial mandatory ISP filtering policy, so the Government would need the support of Senator Fielding as well as the Greens and Senator Nick Xenophon to pass the legislation.

Industry sources said Senator Fielding's sentiments validated ISPs' concerns that the categories of blocked content could be broadened significantly at the whim of the Government, which is under pressure to appease vocal minorities.

I wouldn't have much problem with a country trying to filter illegal things like child porn or something. But the problem is WHO the hell would decide WHAT should be filtered and then of course HOW on earth would you get the internet providers to do it and enforce them doing it. It would get crazy in no time, and of course you cannot completely filter a worldwide internet, so hackers would have a filter by-pass in no time, making it all moot.

Us texans remember when mexico invaded us at the Alamo trying to take away our internet porn. If Australians need help texans will at least e-mail them some naked pics during the crisis, or help with food and ammo.

as for as blocking porn... On my computer I can see anything I want. but as for as my Grandchildren. I bublt them a computer to use here after school. But I set the blocks on it so they can not run across anything that they are to young to see. its the same with the T.V. we control what they watch.... its called being a good parient.
