ok.. here's my idea..

Each character could be anything.. a computer virus, a search engine, a firewall, a virus protection programme, the seti@home programme that links peoples computers around the world in the assimilation of data from space searching for extra terrestrial life.. Anything that is connected to, uses, or is on the net.

A computer virus would usually be a bad guy (but could be a good virus), a virus protection programme would be a good guy (but could try killing off the other guys), and the others would have whatever characteristics you choose..

Each of these things is becoming more and more sophisticated as it is upgraded, added to, bugs removed, patched etc.. they are starting to develop by themselves now, and with the developing intelligence, is developing a sense of self and a purpose. Their goals and purposes vary according to their nature.. but remember, if a virus crashes the whole net, he dies too!

A search engine might have the goal of knowledge - able to find an obscure reference at a single bound, and as payment, an uninterruped power supply.

Initially they would have to keep to themselves, but eventually there will be things they can only get from humans.. and humans will start to notice strange things happening in their networks.. The programmes could form alliances, communities, wage a war..

To Me it sounds Alittel like Re boot But darker And i like it I have A Sugestion Why not Make The Programs Obliveus to the humans Have them Devided By those who think humans are gods And Those WHo Theing Thay Lase Idieats ANd Hve some stof like older Games and WIndows Programes be Actual programs And have them Mess with the world we live in But if where this takes place is the net I guse windows and And pc based gams would not afectusBut Icould mack things iterresting .

Nice. Funny. Loves to have fun. Practical joker. Particularly, he is a search engine for anything from games to sex. He doesn't really handle anything non-entertaining.
