I have some suggestions.
Start with a sex-positive store. Blowfish and Good Vibrations - are excellent suggestions. Another favorite of mine is Toys in Babeland. It's important to remember that you're not buying "a strap-on dildo" as such, you're actually buying a dildo and a harness to put it in. They're generally two separate products.

The harness I recommend the most is the Texas 2-Strap and the Terra Firma is a close second. These are often hard to manipulate if the wearer is pretty large, though, so I usually mention the Crown Harness as well because it's designed for bigger bodies. All of these have straps that go around each leg, which I prefer because they're more secure. If you want one that's just got one strap (thong-style) go with the Thriller G. If you want to be able to do her too, though, definitely get the two-strap kind. By the way, I don't like synthetic (nylon) fabrics for harnesses. Backpack straps are also made out of nylon, and that's what these sound like...the one time I used a synthetic harness, I couldn't stop laughing because it sounded like a backpack bouncing along.

Dildos are hard to recommend because everybody wants something different...and so there are hundreds (if not thousands) of styles. Look through babeland.com, goodvibes.com, and blowfish.com for something you like. If you want a double dildo, I can't recommend the Nexus (and its smaller cousin, Nexus Jr.) enough: they are designed to feel good for the person wearing the harness, too (most boomerang-style doubles just feel like they're going to fall out). Just make sure that if you get a double, you get a harness that has the hole all the way through. I also recommend silicone over other materials: it's safer, easier to clean, lasts longer, holds heat...there are a lot of reasons to use silicone dildos! (Price, unfortunately, is not one of them, but they're worth the extra expense.)

The new Share by Fun Factory might be a good alternative to the Nexus. It looks pretty similar from what I can tell, and it gets good reviews, though I haven't tried it myself.

So take a look around and pick out something you like. If all else fails, get a "kit" - the Bend Over Beginner set comes with everything you need.

If you want tips on how to use it, Karlyn Lotney (Fairy Butch) has an excellent book called The Ultimate Guide to Strap-On Sex that I totally recommend getting. As for websites...well, that depends on what you want to do. TiB has a guide to sucking a strap-on but I don't know of many sites that describe what else you can do. It's basically an in-out thing, you know?

Etoile, as I mentioned in that thread, I settled on the Doc Johnson Ultra Harness Pro kit due to price, the quality leather and overall construction, and ability to fit larger hips (up to 44 or 46 inches, IIRC). I've not tried nylon harnesses, but, like you, I don't think I'd find it sexy and I'd worry about chafing.

I figured a harness with more straps, like around the legs, would be less likely to fit me at a variety of sizes. Since I'd not tried any harnesses on when I bought, I thought 'the more straps, the more things to go wrong with the fit and comfort' and I've never been unhappy with the UHP's thong-style, even though I dislike thong underwear.

Max, a lot of harnesses have a place for a bullet (or similar) vibe for the wearer. I don't recall seeing anything that's likely to give the receiver good vibrations or clit stimulation, and would bet something that makes such a claim doesn't really work due to variations in our anatomy, anyway. Instead of looking for something like that, I'd advise going with a quality harness, dildo(s) (if they aren't silicone or are and will be shared in the same session, you can, and should, always slip a condom over them, which is what we do) that comes highly recommended and picking up a separate bullet or other vibe for the receiver's stimulation (again, use a condom on it if the users aren't fluid-bonded).

Furthermore, I'd suggest avoiding dildos and harnesses that require a special type/size of vibe, or don't allow the vibe to be removed. Vibes are notorious for dying, and you'll want to be able to replace it easily if it does go out. I always go with vibes that use regular batteries, instead of watch or other special batteries, too, because the watch batteries can be costly to replace and aren't rechargeable.

Looks like we've kind've narrowed it down...

She would like:

two-strap style
interchangeable rings
Pocket vibe pocket
Not a nylon strap

I think that covers what she's figured out... the issue though...

A tiny waist. She has like a 27 inch waist, and all the ones we've seen so far have said a max of (whatever, from 40"-60"), but none really mention the smaller size. One did (it said 26"-40" or some such), but a woman with a 28" waist said it was still a bit loose and uncomfortable.

My gf's friend (who will be the receiver) has tried strap on sex once, and it wasn't great because the harness felt so loose. So....

Not sure what to do :-/
