I am currently undertaking a design project for another message board but this time I am stumped. Let me give you some background on what this is about. It's about a series of books written by Lora Leigh. These books are based on the concept of government officials using science to create a race of humans that have their genetics interbred with animals. The genre is erotic romance.

My problem is what kind of visual background would work best. Any help would be appreciated.

Good graphic design is good graphic design. The site/page/whatever should be visually simple and make the content easy to read- and if there are illustrations involved, not interfere with them. Keep it simple and clean, and use color to support the basic emotional tone of the content- but subtly.
