Need Opinions Regarding Public Comments on Lit Stories

My first attempt to start a thread but I wanted other authors opinions on how to manage the Public Comments of my stories.

I have been working on a series, Speeding Ticket, that involves a woman in a group relationship with three men. One chapter, #4, has the woman being attacked and nearly raped by a stranger. Part of that chapter and the next one deal with the group's reponse to her attack.

On Ch 5 comments, an anoymous poster made comments that s/he thought it was funny that the main character would be bothered by a rapist since she was a "gangbanged slut". There were other comments equally rude and offensive to me since I'm not into bestiality.

The next comment defended the story, the situation and the character, saying that "There is a big difference between choosing and being forced...".

I have written rape stories before and that's really not the point of this question. The question (finally, you say) is... Should I delete the rude comment or leave it? I don't usually delete comments. I haven't really had any "bad" comments before but I wouldn't normally consider deleting any comments. Since I agreed to having public comments, I feel as if I shouldn't edit them.

Just looking for other authors opinions... Thanks for any input or insight...

I say keep them, but perhaps post one of your own clarifying the story a bit. It sounds like the best thing has already happened though, and that's a reader fan defending it for you. Best of luck to you.

I don't delete any of my PCs - I don't really see the need for it. You might want to remove the ones that reference bestiality if they offend you.

Welcome to the AH!

The more honest the PCs... the more honest the PCs.

In other words, if you remove stuff people might not be as likely to put a PC up and in one of those might be something you need to hear about your story.

Sincerely,

It was all in one comment... LOL! S/he thought the story was hot but the rest of the comment was just weird...

*shrugs*

My first instinct was "Delete the bastard". But then I stopped myself because if I say that I will accept public comments, then I should let them stay. I was just wondering what others do...

And, rikaaim, the defender pretty much everything that I would have said to the other comment. And I definately appreciate that person's defense.

Thanks for your input! And the welcome...

I received a PC asking why no one was concerned about the bestiality in my story, even though there wasn't any...I left the PC up anyway.

I dont like PCs at all, but maybe thats just fickle old me... :p

If people have anything vital to say, they usually send Reader Feedback, and thats good enough for me.

But if you feel the need to allow PCs, I would think you would leave ALL of them on, because that's really the point of having it in the first place. If you don't like what some people are saying (which was the way it was for me at the beginning of my postings here on Lit and I haven't seen fit to change things), then don't allow PCs with your stories!

LOL! Maybe they didn't know what it meant!

This particular comment referenced a German Shepherd so I think I used the correct word! :D

Oh, well... I'll leave it. I guess it would make my defenders comment a little weird if you can't reference the other one!

IMHO I would delete PCs that miss the point of the story. Such PCs are confusing and serve no real purpose.

Negative PCs can be useful. If the PC contains a well thought out criticism of your story, it shuld be answered and the criticism countered or agreed with.

If a PC ASKS for bestiality or the rape of a 6-year-old, it most definitely should be removed AND a sort of response posted referencing, in general terms, the Literotica rules against bestiality and/or child sex.

Really nasty PCs that threaten physical violence or something of that nature should be reported to Laurel and/or Manu. They can handle that sort of thing better than the individual author.

A PC with a link to a non-Literotica site should be deleted and a copy reported to Laurel and/or Manu.

Not totally on topic

When you post a response public comment, what's the proper rating to give your own story? 100 seems rather pretentious, but anything less doesn't exactly make sense either.

Like faking it?

Nah, like when someone posts an anonymous comment saying "That can't be the end of it! More please!", and you want to inform whoever might read it later that more is in fact on the way. Or in the case above, where someone wants to respond to a specific criticism from a public comment.

Welcome to the AH, Oshaburi.

I only delete duplicate comments. Leave the rest. Occasionally, I'll respond via PC, if I feel the response will clarify things for ALL readers (not just that one).
