as 210.97.4.253 i know it came fron korea. such bs as this
has bounced off my firewall many times {zone alarm}.One was from some dude's home in houston..four people live there
one of them steve. if icould find his e-mail i'd send him a copy of the alert. he should be sleeping at 1:30am not trying to get into my computer.!!

Fuckin' tell me about it! This shit is pissing me off! I finally got rid of one of the regulars that was plaguing me. Eventually I'll get rid of the other. Shit, there's nothing interesting on my computer anyway. Can't these people find something better to do?

Unless, these people have a deticaded connection ie: adsl dsl or t1 and up, the Ip changes so it could be anyone...

How you would check it is do a trace on it... if you have the tracing program....

fgarvb, is it originating from APNIC? 'Cause that is one of my regulars.

reply to April.. no it's Krnic

..also somebody from china. I guess the best thing to do is
to find a trace program. If i find a good one i will let you know. Advertizing is one thing; but sooner or later.!!

Next time you get an alert, click on the button that says something like "Tell me more".

That will spawn a new browser window with some info on what is happening. You can do a small trace that way.

Also on the page, down at the bottom is a series of links that you should explore. Hidden somewhere in there is some info on seperate tracking programs. I think it is in the tech support for Zone Alarm. The basic one, not Pro.

Hope this helps you. I got a hit this evening from Canada. That's a new one.

Need help too!

Hello All!

I was reading this tread, and I was wanting to ask a question.

What are you talking about?

I have webtv right now,but I am getting a computer this week, and I don't really understand what you are talking about.

Is it something I should be aware of?

And if so,what do I have to get to prevent it?

I have'nt had this kind of problem with webtv, because they do all the virus detection, and take care of the problem.
Well most of the time anyways.A couple of weeks ago, someone cracked into Microsofts computer, and fucked up a bunch of stuff. It did mess up some features that I have, but only for a day.

Appreciate any help!

You have a firewall at home? Oh shit! How serious is this shit? What should we look out for? How paranoid should we really be? How do we best protect ourselves?

Damn, just damn.

This is supposed to be harmless fun.

Firewalls are a wonderful thing, especially when you don't have a dynamic IP. I used to use ZoneAlarm, but it kept shutting down my PC
Now I use Port Blocker by AnalogX

Hi fgarvb1..don't know if this will help you or not...I have a trace program I use. It will give you the name of the orignating IP. You put the IP (i.e. 210.97.4.253) when they ping your computer. It will show you where the IP is coming from. You can download their demo (which states it is free to use for 30 days, but I have had this for over 5 months and no charges so far). I also have the name of another site where you can run the IP from which will give you just about the same info. If you are interested let me know.

Mortto56...The numbers which fgarvb1 posted are called an IP host, this is the number assigned your computer when you log online from your service provider. When you visit a site, it will give you what is called a cookie. These cookies are how other sites track you to send you email. You can install watchdog programs which will alert you to when a site is trying to send a cookie to your computer. For different security programs, I have found http://www.zdnet.com offers quite a few good programs (and it gives a relatively detailed account of what the program will do for you) and many of their programs are free.

well , Juspar Emvan it's like this.......

I have "stuff" on my computer that needs to remain under my control 24/7. I work hard for what little i have and i owe it to myself and my wife to make it as safe as possible.

I try to stay current on all updates, antivirus protection as well as trends the "no goods" are upto; From pranksters
to out and out theives.

So far, That i know of; I have only had two cdrw's wiped out
by..well..One time it was probably only a malfunction. The
other time however i was downloading and left the disc in over night and was connected to AOL. The next moring when i
checked on it all 100 MB plus of programs where gone and my
cdrw disc was formated for music.

Rumor has it that microsoft will have a firewall built into
the next release of windows.

I think it depends on how much your computer cost, how much
money you have to replace it and what you use it for.

Think about this. What could someone do with your infromation on your computer if they were dishonest and knew what to do to get it or/and who to sell it to.

I do not like theives and refuse to be a easy victim for them.

Soon i hope to have cable hooked to this "rattling piece of junk" as i like to call it [ it's a nice one by way.]
and i need to be well informed and ready.!!!

notee any infromation on trace programs can be sent to.........

Thanks for the help Ksss!

I got my computer yesterday.I still don't know much about it.I was playing around with it last night trying to figure out what does what.

A friend of mine bought a new computer a couple of weeks ago,so she let me have her old one. It's a 5 year old: Packard Bell-Legend 814CD
Packard Bell-keyboard
Hewlett Packard-Pavilion monitor
Hewlett Packard-Deskjet 600C printer

She didn't have any manuals for it,so I'm kinda winging it until I can find some manuals for it.
Can't complain to much, because the price was right.

If anyone knows where I might be able to find a manual, let me know please.
You can post here,or e-mail me.
