Help! When I read this story, I wasn't able to mark it as a favorite, because the site wouldn't allow me to register as a user. Anyway, I've been trying to find a story for weeks now, but none of the tags I'm using are helping at all. The story is about a first time college freshman (I think his name is Matt) who's like early 20's because he had to save up to be able to go to college. (He came out of the foster system after being kicked out by his super religious dad, when the school outed him and his neighbor, after being caught kissing on Valentine's Day.) He's determined to become a doctor to help people because that's what his deceased (in combat) childhood love planned to do, and he wants to fulfill that dream for him.
Anyway, after unpacking his dorm room, he and his openly gay/ Twinkie roommate decide to go to a bar, where ?Matt? meets and quickly falls for a really cute drunk straight guy (drowning his sorrows re: his impending divorce from his cheating wife) who he hooks-up with in the bathroom, writing his number on his body afterwards (forehead, forearm..?. I don't remember).
Anyway, come first day of classes,?Matt? walks into his biology class only to find his new crush, is none other than his new professor. Both are floored to see each other in that setting.
I believe that either ?Matt's? childhood love or his roommate's name is Justin. Also, the roommate is certifiably crazy, being jealous of ?Matt's? relationship, even to the point of planning to kill his professor/lover once he finds out who he is. Twist of the story is that the roommate actually suffers from unrequited love. He actually grew up down the street from ?Matt? and his first love/neighbor, but was sickly and homebound, always secretly watching ?Matt? and his neighbor, from his bedroom window.
I love this storyline! Please help me find it again. I absolutely love to read and when I fall in love with characters, they come to life for me and never die. I always wonder about the rest of the story... what happened to them? I think authors and editors take for granted that we want to read something else, on to the next one and so on, when in fact readers like me, would love to see it through. I'd love for someone to pioneer updating readers on characters by periodically giving us a view into where they are now, backflashing to catch us up and foreshadowing the possibilities. I'd love to see my favorite characters not just find love, but reach the pinnacle of love and success or crash and burn, then rise like the phoenix, as we raise a family or foster kids,...grow older... yada yada yada. Of course, that's just me.
