Guy Proposes to Girl at High School Graduation Dinner
A young man proposes to a young woman at a dinner after high school graduation that both families were attending. She doesn't say yes and instead calls out the name of the guys best friend who then leaves the dinner with the young woman. The guy who proposed is left humiliated.
The girl marries the main character's best friend and moves away.
The story fast forwards several years and the guy is a banker having inherited the bank upon the death of his father.
The father of the girl is his rival in banking and is plotting to ruin him.
A high school reunion approaches and the guy goes only to run into the young woman who humiliated him years before. He tells her he wants to forget her.
Many more plot events happen including they guy successfully outsmarting his banking rival (the girl's father).
Eventually the girl divorces her cheating husband and moves back to the town she grew up in and tries to reconcile with the main character guy.
The story actually has a happy ending with the girl and the guy reconciling and eventually marrying.
