Need for quotes?????

Why do so many people seem to need to quote the original response or reply? Is it because they are unable to remember that far back, or are they just trying to make themselves look important by the length of their reply? Sure is annoying though. Also eats up a lot of bandwidth

It makes it easier for everyone else to see what they are replying to especially if it is a few posts or pages back.
