Hi all! My first post here!

My girl and I are wanting to buy an inexpensive digital video or web camera for the specific purpose of filming ourselves.

We're thinking something with a built-in mic.

It could link directly to the computer, but it would be better if it has its own memory. Recording to the vcr would be a great feature, but not required.

No bells or whistles needed.

Any suggestions?

I strongly recommend creative lab cameras, they have a very good quality image, some models have built in mics and are not overly expensive. Second choice would be logitech. The thing you need to look for is resolution look for a camera with a 640x480 resolution, don't go with the cheapest you can find you will be very dissapointed in it. Good luck and be sure to show us the results.

None of the Creative Labs cameras have integrated microphones.

I'm looking at the Logiteck Quickcam Messenger.

Anyone ever used one of these?

I have a Logitech Clicksmart 510 I'm told the video quality is pretty good.
If you are interested I can put up some quick regular pics somewhere for you to look at.

It was about 200$ canadian and I did a lot of research before I bought it.
I'm quite happy but ...... it will not take videos longer than ( i forget the exact limitation ) about 90 seconds unattached to a computer.
Attached to the computer I've taken videos that were 9MB in size

I have a JVC Compact VHS. I am able to easily transfer these to the computer and to CD/DVD and it has mic and zoom. I purchased one new for $137 with warranty on eBay. You need a convereter such as "Dazzle" or soemthing similar, but it is relatively inexpensive. This might be a chaper way to go if you are interested. The resolution of the picture is great.
