 HELP!I'm having problems submitting a story. I always copy and paste, but evidently my story is too long. How do I submit it? Do I have to break it into different sections and send them in serpartely? What is the word limit, when you copy and paste? Please someone help me?

wench, unless your story is really really long (over 100,000 words) I don't understand why you're having problems with the copy/paste procedure.

Here's some information from the incomparable Weird Harold © 2003:

100,000 words is only a limit if you C&P into the text box on the submission page. If you submit a text file or Word document, you can exceed that limit by whatever amount you want -- up to 32,000+ lit pages. (NOT that I'm recommending submitting an entire saga as one story. ) However, there is at least one story here at Lit that is 150,000+ words in single submission.

... the only practical way to guage how long your story is, in "Lit Pages," is to use the Tools/Word Count function and divide by 3,500 or 4,000. (You can use the number of 3,767 I gave above but it's a cumbersome number for making quick estimates and really no more accurate than a rounder number. Since the true factor is characters any word count is only an approximation anyway.)

Hope this helps.

Thanks Seattle

Your information was very useful. I don't understand the problem either. My word count has only10,486 words. When I select the whole story and try to copy and paste...the box remains empty. When I select part of the story and paste it...it pastes. I tried doing it in sections like this but about half-way through the story...I couldn't paste any more into the box. I use Microsoft Office 98 for Macintosh and don't know whether it is compatible with Lit's system. I would send it as an attachment if it were. Once again, thank you for the information...it is very helpful. & shaved_wench

You might try pasting it into a simple program like Notepad first, then copying it from there into the Lit box. Changing it to a .txt file removes all the formatting, which may be the problem.

Otherwise, just attach it and try it that way. I assume it's a holiday contest story, which is probably why you want to get it approved as quickly as possible, though.

Good luck
