Need an opion............Please.......

Skitten has recently gone back to work after being a stay at home Mom for almost 12 years .....
She was hired right away by a large chain dept. store and given a better wage to start that most of the other "girls" .
Now she is still less that 90 days into her job and they called her in the office yesterday and gave her a 25 cent raise.....Which is good.....Any raise is good.....But the question is should she now ask for a riase at the end of 90 days like she would have normally got?...........I mean I am happy she got a raise and I don't know retail at all but every rasie I have ever got has been a buck at a time...................25 sure didn't sound like they hurt them self.....

Anyone have a comment on this ...??????

From the management point of view:

25 cent raises *are* a big deal in retail. We're given a certain payroll budget and going over it is NOT a good thing.

However, all she really needs to do is sit down with the manager and ask him if the 90 day raise still stands even though she just got one beforehand.

Of course she should. Her supervisors are probably thrilled with getting a responible employee. It can't hurt to ask. In my experience if the money is there for raises good employees, who ask, will get a raise.

I am not sure what her job is, but retail jobs do not usually give large raises because of the high turnover rate. You might want to have her ask when beginning of their fiscal year is, since most stores do annual employee reviews and give raises with these reviews. My mom went back to work in retail, and was also give a higher base pay than most, and was then given a raise with her annual review, which was also higher than most employees. If she still isn't sure, she might want to ask another employee who has been there, who wouldn't be offended, how the store handles things like that.

Sales at the Bon Ton......They do everything form sell to unload trucks.

Bitch_Goddess you are so right she has been there almost 2 moonths and so many have quite that started when she did.....In and out right away.....They have to dress up also...this is a No jeans type of store.......Alot of folks don't like that....

We are pretty sure thats why she got what she got.....She is always on time...never calls off......Works her days off when they call and stays late also.....

I think they want to hang on to her and she likes it but I don't want her to get taken advatage of....She busts her ass for them and I don't want to push it if it is not proper to ask since she just got one....But I want her to get what she desirves.....

Here's the deal. They are going to use her as long as they can. It's just the way it is. To cover call outs, shortages in help and any other situation that comes up. She's going to work hard for her money and the longer she's there the harder it's going to seem that she works.

She should ask for whatever she can get. It's not going to hurt anything even if they can't give her what she'd like. Again, if we can give raises we do.

Go for it. Trust me, she's going to deserve it.

LOL yea........I was out of my leauge here and who better to ask than the board............Sounded like the perfect place to me.......

We can solve all the problems in the world here........We many of them at least......Or well we think we could.....
