I went throught the list of editors a bit but it's friggin long. I figured this might be a better way to find someone. I've been visiting Lit for a few years and finally decided to try and post something I wrote. I write alot but really don't consider myself any good at it.

I've written a story, basically non erotic, though I could make it erotic if I chose to add a little bit to it. As of right now I rather not. I'd like someone to read it over and help with all the little gramatical problems I have with it.

Hello Tuna and welcome to the EF :rose:

One of our prestigious editors will come along shortly, I'm sure, to offer you the help you need.

In the meantime, can you make sure you can receive PMs and/or emails, as most editors will want to do their first contact with you via PMs. Also, you could maybe say what type of editing you're requesting. Is it only your grammatical problems that you want the editor to take care of or do you need more help?

The more precise you'll be in what you need the easier it'll be for you to find an editor as you'll know what you want and you don't want.

Good luck and don't forget; enjoy the ride and don't feed the trolls. :)

Volunteer editors. Whoa.

Everyone keeps harping on about making use of VEs, so I thought to give it a shot in hopes of solving some minor grammatical problems that won't highlight on my PC checker (I don't wish to get roasted when I post). Over the space of two weeks I've tried four, but each one said sorry, no can do. I was polite and clear about what was needed, but each gave a plausable reason for not committing themselves.

It makes me suspicious though. Was the real reason because they didn't wish to be involved with a minority theme - transvestism - even when that subject is included on their list of 'will do's'?

Just a thought, and to make it plain to new authors that getting the service of an editor isn't always easy and is no quick fix.

Hi Snurge,

I can't answer for those editors who declined to help you, but I'm curious as to why you think their reasons weren't the real ones. What makes you think that your theme of choice had anything to do with their refusal? Furthermore, you mention that your theme was on their list of 'will do', so why do you think it's your theme the problem?

I'm not trying to be difficult or dense, I'm just trying to understand why you would think they weren't giving you the true reasons for their refusal.

I know that for me I have plenty of 'will do' but it doesn't change the fact that when I'm overloaded with stories, I decline to edit more and I say I don't have time. Does it mean I'm lying? Of course not! It simply means that I'm already busy and can't take them on.

I'm not saying those editors were truthful or were lying. I'm simply trying to understand how you came to the conclusion that they weren't 'honest' in their reasons for refusing to help you.

Hi, Lady C

Heck, it's a reaction I guess. Frustration. I'm looking around for something to blame. I've got this story ready, but I can't let it go until it's right, at least in my own eyes. My friends say I've got a stupid hang-up with 'as' and 'has'. The work I've done is novella size and although I have the definitions of these words in front of me, I get dizzy trying to identify them in the manuscript.

Be assured no one as been unjust or cruel. I'll keep on looking.

If you could provide some more detail, like subject/topic of your story and length it might be easier for one of the VEs to judge if s/he can help you.

Thanks!
