My cat apparently has been reading too many skinny model magazines, because even though she's practically skin and bones, she's become bulemic. Actually, it seems that when I go away for just a couple of days she throws up. I have always had a roommate, so its not like I'm leaving her alone. Why does she do this?

your cat is punishing you for leaving..

seriously.. it's more than likely stress.

Cat's don't like change unless they instigate said changes.

I have no advice how to change the cat. Remember cats expect us to change anyway. So anything you do probably isn't going to help (except staying home all the time).

Good Luck :)

Your cat is suffering from acid reflux from rich canned food and too much attention.

Put him in a burlap sack with some bricks and throw it in your nearest watercourse.

Don't forget to tie the bag closed.

gee

the rumors are true...

you really are a prick.

that's it...I'm renaming her "Princess Diablo" and I will be her loyal footservant, dutifully feeding her only tuna and cleaning her litterbox 3 times a day. She ignores me when I'm here, oftentimes hiding under the bed until I go away, and when I do she throws up.

Cats...such a total pain in the rear, especially when they fall asleep on your leg, efficiently cutting off a major artery so you wake up with that nice pins and needles feeling in your feet.

Goodness...do I love her though.

You might wanna have the vet check her out, even though it's probably nothing. But just to rule out a serious gastro-intestinal problem. One reason cats might not like to barf in front of their humans is cuz they know it makes us upset. Some actually (believe it or not!) care that they don't upset their humans so they wait 'til mommy and/or daddy is gone to be ill.

You didn't say how long she's been doing it? Have you changed her diet at all? Is it uh. ya know. Just food or is it dense hair balls? If there's a quantity of hair in it, have you tried using an over-the-counter hairball remedy?

Also, have you gotten any catnip toys that might be leaking? Is she indoor only or outdoor? Is she eating grass if she goes outdoors? More than usual?

Now, I ask that stuff for form. It's almost 100% certain that she's just being a cat and driving you crazy for the sheer joy of it.

;)

It sounds like stress to me, too. But keep an eye on your kitty's water intake and the frequency/volume of his urine. If that part is unusual, then take to the vets.

Did she go to Lavender or did Lavender go to your place?

Cats are very territorial, and if you moved her, it probably was stress. If she stayed home, then it could be stress or hairball etc.

I would do the vet thing.

she's only done it a couple of times, and its pretty spread out over the past couple of months or so...probably no more than 5 times total. Its just food, no hair...that was my initial concern too.

I don't like catnip toys, so she doesn't have any, so that's not the problem. She's an indoor cat, so she has no access to grass either.

I figured it was stress, but I appreciate all the advice you all have on this subject. She's due to see the vet within the next month, so I'll bring it up with her then.

You're learning...
By the way someone used to have as thier sig line:

Dogs have owners
Cats have staff

lol! It's probably just the sheer perversity of the feline species.

And ok...how's this. My house is maybe 3/4 carpet and 1/4 tile. Now, odds would say that at least now and then they'd hit the tile, right? noooooooo! NEVER! Always on the carpet. Little kitty bastards! lol

If your cat has a blockage in her stomach, this can cause her to vomit what appears to be a wet mass of undigested food. Often times vomiting such as this is an indication of another problem that needs a medical diagnosis.

Take her to a vet for a check up. She could have a hair ball lodged in her intestines that is only allows small amounts of food to pass through.

I know this can be happening as I had the same thing with my Bongokitty. The vet gave me some medicine that helped him cough it up.

Mine occasionally does the same thing, but with her, it's a case of eating too fast.

The furballs can be controlled with over the counter or even just a touch of butter or margarine..smear it on her mouth and she will clean it off (my vet recommended this).

Stress and new surroundings can do it.

But keep in mind, humans get sick every once in a while and since it's not on a daily basis, chances are it's nothing too serious.
