A certain Australian lady - who shall remain nameless - has suggested in a thread elsewhere that her boytoy brings her Bourbon in cans, owing to his status as reigning champion tightwad or something. If this is a cost-control measure why aren't we doing so in this country? Think how much shipping cost would be lowered, for instance, given how light aluminum is.

Seems like a really convenient size for hauling to parties, too, so there's no problem with stashing the leftovers in the trunk before driving home. Why hasn't this concept caught on in the U.S.? Aren't we up to date here?

We get enough dissolved aluminium in our pop cans don't need the extra in our bourbon. Bet it taste really good in a can.......yucccccckkkkkkkkk!

;)

hmm...why would someone want to drink Bourbon anyways??

NOW if they put Capt Morgan's Spiced Rum in cans...that would be a breakthrough!

That's a bright idea. Right up there with cardboard toilets and steel wool brassieres.

Some things don't need improving.

th' day they put... black Jack *hic* in cans *hic* is the day I ................................... huh?

cardboard toilets?

What the hell kind of waste products does cardboard excrete anyway?

Capt. Morgan is fine, any liquor suits me for the purposes of this question, it just happened to be bourbon in the cited example and my experience suggests that bourbon lovers are creative, open-minded, entrepreneurial types who are largely Leos, so it seemed a good title... once the concept is in place the contents can be any of your favorite booze, I figure.

uhoh...now he is gonna come up with a concept!

Now THIS is a Bourbon expert.

I prefer my Maker's Mark bottled in glass and sealed with wax.
So, Rose, that whole can concept seems to be for a different market segment, is that what you're suggesting?

Okay guys and girls... in Aussie and NZ, any spirit you can think of is premixed and sold in either cans or bottles... some in plastic bottles.

weathered2... sorry but Black Jack and cola is sold in cans in just about any liquor store you care to waltz into here in NZ.

I may have to move

I had the distinct pleasure of living next door to a charming Aussie attached to the Embassy in DC for some years. He introduced me to Victoria Bitter, and I have to this day never encountered an unfriendly Aussie, let alone one who wouldn't have a drink.

You people rock, ya know?

LMAO... Yup the Aussies are a sociable bunch... just don't get in between them and their drink on a Saturday night... things could get ugly. :D

Alcohol is a solvent. Bourbon that tastes like Aluminum does not interest me.

Water is a solvent. CocaCola is a serious solvent.

Darn near anything liquid is a solvent for something. Cans can be manufactured with linings when there's an adverse impact on the chemical composition of the contents. I think the aussies are on to something, and never meant to let us in on the secret.

I've seen Jack Daniels mixed drinks in cans, but that is not really bourbon. To be a bourbon, it must be brewed in Bourbon County, Kentucky. Jack Daniels is brewed in Lynchberg, Tennessee.

As far as I know, no bourbon is sold in cans in the US, and I have tried a lot of boubons. BTW, Blushing Rose, your Maker's Mark is an excellent choice!:D

Alcohol is one of the best solvents.

But if you want answer B, fine:

Bourbon in a can is fucking ridiculous. No bourbon worth drinking will EVER come in a can and noone worth drinking it would buy it in a can.

There.

You aren't actually putting down all of Australia and New Zealand, right?

Did I strike a nerve, mouse? Didn't mean to perk your blood pressure.

Nope, that is me. Ruby and I do look a great deal alike. To think everyone thought I was a man, suckers!

I agree with my friend with the ugly dog, bourbon has to be in glass. No ifs, no buts, that's it.

What's fucking next? Beer in cans? That would be blasphemy

from a little holler near Loretto, Kentucky

This is of course the only bourbon (worth spending your money on). Maybe Bill Samuels will decide to start dipping cans in red wax--nah.
Besides, I like to be able to see what I'm drinking before hand; I hate drinking anything out of a can.

I have seen (and unfortunately tasted ) Jim Beam and cola in a can. Ewwwwwww. Just NASTY. It does taste like aluminum. Almost put me off the Jim Beam permanently!

If this marketing tool continues I fully expect to see Dom Perignon in cans. But drinking Dom from a can or a dixie cup seems to leave a lot lacking. Instead of issuing the following toast:

Gaudeamus igitur
iuvenes dum sumus.
Post iucundum iuventutes
Post molestam senectutem
Nos habebit humus. So let us rejoice,

While we are young.
After happy youth
After annoying old age
The earth will have us.

I think it would be more appropriate, when drinking champagne from a can to toast as follows:

Over the lips and through the gums,
look out tummy, here it comes.

You see the problem, of course. It just loses something.

Sacrilege! Think I've seen that here too, but quickly made the sign of the cross and kept walking toward "the light".
