Deliverance was his first movie. Pretty memorable debut. The dude worked constantly; there was like a 20-year stretch where it seemed like you couldn't make a movie without him.

This guy was always an actor over being a celebrity, which is why his ubiquity never hurt a film. Sometimes I forgot he was even in something when he was in it. Damn near impossible to do these days.
