Neat Pics

Great pics. Recognized everything in them as well. Except one of the carriers.

The B2 always makes me laugh. at $2 billion a pop to make they hardly dare to fly the things. One bird in an engine and enough money to provide every university student in America tuition for a year goes up in smoke.

I'm not against the military. I'd just rather see it used for things rather than power and glory.

That's a problem for all jets.

I saw the B2 in progress, and it was... pretty damn glamorous, with the carbon fiber beams that are so light you can pick up twenty feet in one hand, and stuff.

The best quote from one of the engineer/test pilots; "It turns in unity."

Very pretty! I'm sending this link to my father-in-law (retired SAC colonel; navigator on KC-135s mostly).

There is an airforce base near Atlantic city, and I saw what looked like a C-17 landing the last time I was down there. It looked really weird as it descended across the highway as it banked in to line up with the runway.

The C17 and the C5A appear to float down to the ground. When they take off empty they appear to float up into the air also.

When I was stationed in Colorado Springs they used to fly into our base all the time to pick up a load of Coors beer when they were headed east. Watching the take off from the end of the flightline was such a kick.

Years ago I watch the Hawg doing firing runs at a range in Hawai'i. It was awe-inspiring to see the plane nearly stop in the air from the recoil of that huge Gattling as smoke poured out of the barrels. The sound was more like ripping canvas than gunfire. That's what I want on the other end of the phone when I call for help.

Surreal. I wanted to say surreal last night, but was too exhausted to come up with the word ;)

I remember seeing a C-5 landing at NAS Norfolk.
I'm still amazed that something bigger than most barns actually flies
That sumbitch is huge!

B2 or B36

When I was a kid I was in my dads car as a B-36 flew into the Norton AFB. It was maybe 300 feet above the car and made a hell of a noise.

I wish the AF would realize that spending $400 Mill on one fighter that can't support troop on the ground = 20 A-10's that can actually be used.

At Pete field we had a C5 break down. The crew, it was raining at the time, played touch football inside while they waited for the part to be delivered. Even the punts didn't touch the ceiling.

The airport in town is has some military planes that come through that are just amazing to watch. I know how they stay in the air but seeing them just makes me have to stop to see it.

I don't think anybody is against the military, some of us question the uses to which our own and other peoples children are put.

That first pic looks like my old squadron.
